Waterloo - Six Democrat presidential candidates are scheduled to appear at the Iowa Federation of Labor AFL-CIO state convention at the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center in Waterloo Aug. 15.
Candidates Christopher Dodd, John Edwards, Joseph Biden, Bill Richardson, Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are scheduled to appear sequentially and in that order at a presidential forum from 2 to 5 p.m. that day.
It will not be a debate with all the candidates on stage at once. Each candidate will have 30 minutes to give remarks and answer three questions from the organization, said Iowa Federation of Labor president Mark Smith.
The candidates each will be asked the same questions. "We'll be doing three different kinds of questions: One on health care; one on trade and jobs; and the other one's gong to be on the (federal) Employee Free Choice Act," Smith said, a bill to making it easier to unionize workplaces and negotiate initial labor contracts.
The candidates then will have an opportunity to attend a reception to be put on by Iowa Federation from 5 to 8 p.m. at the convention center, at which candidates may set up a table and display their literature as well as mingle with convention delegates, Smith said.
"I wouldn't be surprised if we had three or four candidates" at the reception, Smith said. The C-SPAN cable television network is anticipated to videotape the day's activities.
