OBAMA IS GOD
Wow. What a great debate about foreign policy.

IMO Hillary was wrong, Edwards was forgettable, Dodd was Dodd, Richardson was there, Kucinch was awesome but in another way unfortunately, and Obama had it exactly right and rode it home.

That is my opinion of course.

Maybe they could rule as a council. Hmmmmmmmmmmm.

1. Speaking as a guy giving Obama a chance who hasn't watched the debate
can you say why you think he had it exactly right? Go ahead and keep it brief if you like, I'm just curious.

2. he clarified precisely what he meant about Pakistan
Edited on Tue Aug-07-07 07:26 PM by AtomicKitten
He clarified that as in his initial remarks he was speaking hypothetically if he had actionable intelligence, yada, yada. He also talked about supporting Pakistan on the condition that they do our bidding, i.e., take out al Queda (didn't say it but I think that's what he meant), and that what was going on in the hills in Pakistan was a security threat to the U.S., not anything in Iraq, and he kinda told Dodd kisses but no cigar, and Hillary's POV looked so wrong.

IMO

Not the distortion I've heard elsewhere.

I wonder if people will appreciate the full version or not. No clue.

32. Obama needed to be more clear
I think Dodd at one point used the word "invasion" to characterize the action Obama advocated in Pakistan. That sort of thing needs to be quickly and clearly dispelled; otherwise Obama's political enemies will have more leeway to create false impressions over what level of military engagement he meant.

I'm no fan of Hillary, but I thought her caution about Musharraf's tenous hold on his fundamentalist nuclear-armed country is the most important security issue regarding Pakistan.

42. I thought Obama cleared up that notion.
Sometimes in politics the candidates need to be more robotic in their language, dumb it down so to speak, with repetition of themes. That's where Bill Clinton kicked the every lovin' crap out of his opponent by answering simply and succinctly and then explaining it clearly. "Yes and I'll tell you why ..." I thought that was brilliant.

To be frank, I believe Obama would give the entire planet a breath of fresh air. I can't do any more Clinton policy, although I admit she is not Bill, but then again I thought with some notable sins Bill did a pretty good job overall, but I digress.

We shall see.

There are times I think he's kinda ineffectual or clumsy. He may stumble but he recovers quickly and fine, acting like he meant to do it, ha, ha. But every once in a while he performs beautifully. Like now. IMO. I give the others props when they do too.

Participating in an election is our civic duty (and privilege).

27. i agree that when he is good
he is very eloquent and sounds very new.

but I don't hear that as often as I hear: decent, smart generalities.

my only grief is with people who think everything he says is great BECAUSE he said it.

Edwards is my guy, and there is an awful lot of times where I wish he had been stronger, more clear, more precise. I still want him to get the nom, but I also think he is far from perfect.

another note- getting to where I can't stand biden (lackey for HRC), but he had a great line tonight - 'let's not let perfect get in the way of good'.

Hey, Edwards kicked some butt tonight. He's going balls out in his campaign and I admire that. I think he took a good portion of the debate tonight. Also Kucinich and Hill had some brilliant moments.

All in all a good time was had by all. Speaking of the crowd, it looked like the audience at the debate could been watching a Bruce Springsteen concert. I love it when the audience is real.

I don't think he has performed well in debates so far. His rhythm was off. But he kicked into gear in this segment and beautifully and succinctly explained PRECISELY what he meant and means, and he left the rest choking on his dust. It was beautiful.

I'm NOT making fun. Really, I'm not. I just don't think he has a shot in the general election.

But, if it makes you feel any better, I don't think Hillary or Johnny have one, either.

57. I thought his comment about foreign policy being the exclusive domain of Washington insiders
was spot on.

And the attitude that important matters like how to deal with terrorists in Pakistan shouldn't be brought up in public is arrogant and condescending.

63. Just look at how the Iraq war was handled
We in the public arena were left in the dark as to the real motives of the Bush administration, while they had to sort through the WMD bullshit the President and media were feeding us and could only guess as to the real motives of war (IE: controlling the oil supply).

There was never an honest debate about the Iraq war, thanks to media complacency, and enough democrats siding with Bush and refusing to ask the tough questions about the invasion.

59. Obama makes a comment - the msmturns it into something totally out of context, Obama with
each passing week is coming across more presidential and sounds like an impressive knowledgeable person that I would drive 100 miles out of my way to vote for.

If Bush hadn't allowed Bin Laden to escape in Tora Bora we would have had the bastard!

62. that was party of the beauty of the way he ended that segment
He cleared it up so it was CRYSTAL CLEAR and managed to bitch-slap Dodd down and as a bonus separated himself from HRC who IMO was clearly wrong.

I thought it was a brilliant moment for him.

I think you have abandoned any pretense of objectivity here. I think it is more in our interests to analyze all of the candidates without bias, not to form an internet glee club.

"I find it amusing that those who helped to authorize and engineer the biggest foreign policy disaster in our generation are now criticizing me for making sure we are on the right battlefield and not the wrong battlefield in the war against terrorism."

I was encouraged when the Obama-haters were reduced to slamming his opposition to the Iraq War on the basis that his motives aren't pure enough - allegedly political.

Jeez, a purity test for opposing the war. Now that's bullshit.

94. That was the line that turned me against Barrack Obama
It was disappointing to see him stoop to such a low as to accuse these other candidates of engineering "the job". He might as well have said "I'm working in behalf of George W. bush; he had
nothing to do with the bloody oil war" That was plain stupid !!! :+ :+ :+ :puke:

99. The best line
Went to Kucinich and public ownership of the sport teams.

Obama was a nervous wreck last night, which might not be a big deal if he wasn't "the man to beat" and on his home turf. However, he is and he fumbled the ball and will be taking a seat on the bench very soon if he keeps being "himself".

If "terrorism" exists than what will change in this country? Let's take a look at who creates terrorism worldwide. That is your homework assignment. Go look up SOA, go look at history, go look at yourself. Then get back to me.

100. Kucinich did really well.
And if you think he stands a snowball's chance in hell in winning the nomination, perhaps your tinfoil hat is on too tight :). Too bad, really, but it is what it is.

I disgree with your rather disparaging assessment of Obama, but would like to point out that you probably wouldn't even break a sweat being a little more open - and fair - about the candidates.
