Edwards & Obama v. The Rest of the Field?
Edwards & Obama v. The Rest of the Field

==An interesting dynamic has emerged in this debate. On one side are Edwards and Obama. On the other are Clinton, Biden and Dodd.

Clinton, so far, has been spared having to attack either Obama or Edwards because Dodd and Biden are handling that task nicely. Biden just took a personal and direct shot at Edwards for his insistence that voters should look at the candidate who has walked the walk.

"It's not where you've been in the last two years, it's where you were in the six years in the Senate," said Biden. Zing!

Minutes earlier Clinton said she and Dodd had worked together to protect mine workers but that the Bush administration had blocked their legislation.

Those are just the two most recent examples of the factions emerging tonight and perhaps in the race more generally. It's one to watch.==

4. Dodd and Biden are VP-wannabe drones who are now starting
to protect the Queen Bee from Obama and Edwards (the interlopers). That's my basic read. They are NOT going to be the nominees and they know it (they've both been in politics long enough to read the writing on the wall), but they hope Hillary will take them for veep or Sec. of State.

6. They add nothing to the ticket as VP, however...
It's possible that the model of choosing the VP to balance the ticket is breaking down. Because the VP is becoming more influential, it is very possible that candidates will start picking their running mates based on who they want to work with.

7. It's the old guard vs. the new guard
It's the Washington insiders who've been there for decades vs. the change agents and candidates with youth and vivacity.
