Poll question: If Hillary was not related to Bill, do you think she would have the same level of support? |
|
Now, Hillary supporters, please don't take offense. I just think it's an interesting question, and nothing personal towards Hillary.

3. Hey, I know Bill is from Arkansas... |
|
...but I really don't think Hillary is RELATED to him. She's MARRIED to him. There is a difference, at least outside the Ozarks...

5. Yes, that thought occured to me, but if I said "if whe wasn't married to Bill" |
|
people might misinterpret that as a suggestion of them being divorced (hypothetically). If she divorced Bill...

are affected by the people who we associate with or marry.
It's like saying what would her life have been if she hadn't met Bill and visa versa............
I detect some sexism going on here. If you have read about Bill Clinton, you would know that Hillary was instrumental in helping Bill attain his political goals.
They are a team.......and that's reality.
Now, if you had asked how much of Bill has to do with people supporting her, it would still be a tough question. I'm not sure how you measure that.
Suffice to say.....Bill is an asset to her, as she has been to him....and that's the reality......

7. You make a good point, except for the unsubstantiated allegation of sexism. |

Pondering how much support Hillary has because she is a woman is valid. I think to deny that some of her support does not come from those who wish to see the first woman elected President is to deny reality. There is nothing wrong with someone supporting her at least partly because she is a woman; it's a valid political position.
Edit: Wrong poll, so allow me to rephrase.
Pondering how much support Hillary has because she is married to Bill is as valid as pondering how much support RFK had because he was related to JFK. I think it's an interesting sociopolitical question.

Except for the fact you may disagree?
Saying "It's impossible to tell where she would be without Bill" is not a sexist statement unless you choose to interpret it as such. Her husband was President of the United States for eight years, and during that time she had the national stage as "first lady." It is a valid point of view to consider that fact as having some bearing on where she is now.
There is nothing wrong or sexist about that, and it does not demean Hillary unless you choose to interpret it that way.

10. She would probably have the same level of support as any other woman Senator |
|
running for President. She would NOT be raising millions and wouldn't seriously get the nomination! Shoot, she had 8 years of name recognition and is even now the best known candidate. That is money in the bank.Add that to the fact that many think it is like reelecting Bill( many have said that to me.They say we get Bill back)and you have the secret of her success. And this is not sexist. It would be the truth! The situation would be exactly the same if Hillary had been the charasmatic president helped to the WH by her hubby. If people loved Hillary, they would wantto help Bill!

14. Hillary would be a managing partner in some law firm and Bill... |
|
would still have become President w/o her. Outside of the Lewinsky fiasco she was a drag on him ever since she made her "cookies and tea party" comments.

I think she might be a partner in a prestigious law firm, instead. Or maybe a CEO for a large coorporation. I can even see her as the Dean of a college.
Just a feeling.

She most likely would be an unknown without Bill.

20. There's an old joke .. |
|
Hillary and Bill are traveling by car and stop at a gas station. A man around Bill's age comes out and pumps the gas for them.
As they sit in the car, Bill turns to Hillary and says "Imagine how different things would have been if you married him and not me".
Hillary smiles at Bill and says, "Yeah, he'd be president and you'd be pumping gas".
