CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton is arguing that unsafe bridges, crowded seaports and clogged highways endanger the economy as well as putting the public at risk.

Last week's fatal bridge collapse in Minneapolis underscores the critical need for infrastructure improvements nationwide, Clinton said in remarks prepared for delivery Wednesday afternoon in New Hampshire.

She proposed spending $10 billion over 10 years to repair and upgrade roads, bridges, waterways and seaports.

``Something is very, very wrong when, at the dawn of the 21st century, in the richest country on earth, people are actually nervous about driving over bridges for fear that they'll collapse. Or they're worried that their levees may burst, or their highways may buckle,'' she said. ``The degradation of our infrastructure isn't just a serious threat to our safety - it is also a grave threat to our economy.''

6. She's been working on this issue for some time and co-sponsored
the National Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2007. It was introduced back in March.

Senator Clinton Applauds Passage of Infrastructure Improvement Bill

Bipartisan Bill Will Create National Commission on Infrastructure

Washington, DC — Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton today applauded Senate passage of the National Infrastructure Improvement Act of 2007, bipartisan legislation she introduced with Senators Carper, Voinovich and Coleman, to address the deteriorating condition of our nation's roads, bridges, drinking water systems, dams and other public works. The bill will establish a National Commission on Infrastructure of the United States, charged with aiding in the nation's economic growth and ensuring the nation's infrastructure meets current and future demands.

"The catastrophic bridge collapse in Minneapolis is a tragic reminder of the growing challenge we are facing across the country. Our roadways, bridges, railroads and other infrastructure are aging and facing growing strain. It is vital that we make needed investments to rebuild and strengthen our infrastructure and this bill will put us on the path toward meeting this pressing need,” said Senator Clinton.

8. I wish she had said at some point -
My husband worked to build a bridge to the 21st century, but thanks to two terms of Bush incomptetence and neglect, when I become President, the first thing I'll have to do is to fix all the old 20th-century bridges!

9. Because Republicans hate government
and want to privatize all the roads so they let the highway system go to shit.

Did she say that?
