Obama blasts shadow fundraising group

Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer

Wednesday, August 8, 2007

Cutting to the chase....

"The senator was firm in his view that supporters should not participate in such organizations.

"My recommendation to people who are interested in supporting me is to support me through our campaign -- the way over 250,000 donors have supported us, the way hundreds of thousands of volunteers have supported us.

"Get involved in the campaign that we've set up, that is above board, that is transparent, that is legal,'' he said. "And I think if people channel their energies in that way, we'll all be better off.''

Asked if he was publicly suggesting that Democrats no longer contribute to such independent organizations, Obama said: "That's what I just did ... We do not think people should be donating to 527s. We would rather have them in involved in our campaign.''

Fair is fair. When this came up, the original campaign answer was mushy.

Obama has now spoken very forcefully on the issue and I applaud him for attempting to live up to his campaign's ideals.

10. Thanks
Your man continues to flirt and tease though the hour is getting late...

"Singapore - Former US Vice President Al Gore said Wednesday that he may return to politics in the future but repeated his position that he has no plans to enter the 2008 presidential race.

"I may re-enter politics at some point in the future because I'm only 59 years old," Gore told reporters on the sidelines of a forum in Singapore.

Gore said he has "no plan" to run in the 2008 presidential election but aims to make the environment a focus of public discussion during the campaign.

"There is no single candidate that is putting forward a comprehensive argument about the environment or making climate change a priority," Gore said."

11. I know, The suspense is killing me.
If he enters the race, I wonder if there is a re-set button here.

If he jumped in, I hope they have a big enough net to contain me.

We shall see. The election is young.

4. Support Obama directly through his campaign
A spokesman for Mr. Obama said the senator did not approve. “Obama thinks that candidates should be accountable for the campaigns they run, the donations they receive and the money they spend,” the spokesman, Bill Burton, said. “It is our hope that anyone who supports Obama does so directly through his campaign.”

Exact same message. Just like I said.

Its not the same and you know it.

I'm glad Obama came out and made this clearer.

7. Oh my god, it's the same damn thing
The campaign issued a statement and the candidate answered a question in person. Happens every goddamn day. You were hoping to make a big stink and embarrassed yourself; now you come along and want to pretend to be graciously praising your opponent. Who do you think you're fooling.
