Edwards to campaign in NW Iowa next week
Sioux City Journal

Democratic Party presidential candidate John Edwards will campaign in Northwest Iowa as he brings his family to the Iowa State Fair next week and in preparation for a debate to be held in Des Moines Aug. 19.

Edwards will have a differing campaign theme for each day. On Monday, he will talk about ending the war in Iraq in a 5:30 p.m. meeting at Cronk's restaurant in Denison and at 7:45 p.m. at Dan's Pizza in Onawa.

On Tuesday, Edwards will speak on his plans to restore economic fairness at an 8:15 a.m. meeting with the Woodbury County Democratic Party Truman Club at 1915 Heights Ave., at 10:30 a.m. at BozWellz Pub in Ida Grove and at 12:30 p.m. at Twin Lakes Steakhouse in Rockwell City.

In all the Northwest Iowa campaign events, former North Carolina senator Edwards will be joined by his wife Elizabeth Edwards.

1. He's also scheduled to appear at the LOGO (GLBT) debates.
Here's my email to his campaign site:

Dear Senator Edwards,

I want to thank you in advance for your appearance at the HRC/LOGO forum.

Your struggle with the notion of gay marriage is not unique, but at the same time it is not very forward thinking for someone that wants my gay vote and campaign dollars. We already know you say you shun the support of lobbyists. Does that position have something to do with your faith as well?

I was raised in the Southern Baptist tradition, but I both got and came out. I know what you are trying to balance. I am out to my family and they still love me even if they will not vote for any Democrat. They are “low information” voters. I’m sure that you can appreciate that, too.

Equal is equal or it’s not.

I like your populace message, but if it’s not equal across the board for everyone from the pensions of CEO’s and workers, to the legal recognition of straight and gay relationships… it’s a flawed message.

You cannot defer this insight to your wife when there are candidates that are fully prepared to support my equality as well as many other issues that you support.

I’m hoping that you will have an epiphany. If you don’t, I can’t support you when there are others in the race that support a much larger and inclusive vision for our country.

If your staff wants to prepare you, I offer this link as well:

Godspeed to you and your family,
