The Blogs Are Alive With the Sound of Angry Democrats

By CARL HULSE
Published: August 9, 2007
WASHINGTON, Aug. 8 — Progressive and liberal groups and left-leaning blogs are furious, tossing around fighting
words like “spineless,” “craven” and “weak.”

So much for the hopes of Democratic leaders that they could avoid a withering political attack by clearing the way
for Congress to approve an expansion of the Bush administration’s terrorist surveillance program before the August recess.

“Ultimately, it was the Democratic leadership on the Hill that rolled over to this demand,” said Caroline Fredrickson,
a top lobbyist for the American Civil Liberties Union. “Instead of standing strong and standing on principle, they
panicked and gave the administration not only what it has been asking for, but more.”

“We should have stood our ground,” said Representative Jerrold Nadler, Democrat of New York. “We had a bill that
did everything they said was necessary for national security. I think we could defend that.”

Progressive bloggers agreed. “Cowards,” said the headline on a post Tuesday on the Daily Kos Web site, which
listed the 41 House Democrats and 16 Senate Democrats who sided with the White House and Republicans.

1. But do our elected representatives understand our anger?
They don't seem to be listening.

2. some do but sadly many don't
Steny Hoyer of MD is a good example .... he is against impeachment
because he thinks it will hurt in 2008. My thoughts are screw 2008
and let's try to hold thses thugs accountable for their crimes now and
force the repugs to defend the indefensible.

3. Seems they believe we have more durable party loyalty than memory
I suspect they are betting that 14 months from now we will have forgotten all about this and are standing up praising the incumbents.

6. Does anyone here really think they give a horse's rosette WHAT we think?
Edited on Thu Aug-09-07 07:33 AM by Totally Committed
I am now convinced there is a level of activity between our Party and the other side to which we are not privy. This was no normal capitulation. FISA actually removes our right to privacy. I amso pissed off at the Democrats who enabled that Bill, that I wan't them all GONE from this Party. If my rights are taken away by the Neo-cons, I want it to be over (figuatively) the dead bodies of the Democrats I elect to protect it. This was handed to Bush on a silver platter, and I don't give a sh*t WHEN it "sunsets", one day is too long without our Constitutional rights to be given away. PLUS, I don't trust ANY of them enough to believe we'll get them back when the Bill "sunsets" anyway.

I AM PISSED TO THE MAX. There is blood in the water now, and every single DINO who votes with the other side against our best interests and over our wishes get UN-elected so fast it will give them whiplash.
