Hypocrisy Aside, Clinton is Still Wrong About Nuclear Weapons
Sure she previously said that we should take the nuclear option of the table with Iran - a specific exception to her general rule regarding the war on terror. Her bravado and hypocrisy were full on display against Obama.

Not that she has ever tried to score cheap political points against an opponent - it WAS very important to slam Kerry for botching a joke, and it was that much more crucial in the heat of a tight mid-term election.

But the fact of the matter is that she remains committed to keeping nuclear weapons as a vital part of our national defense. That is unacceptable to me. Like torture, nuclear weapons remain a threshold of humanity that should never be crossed. It should be a key part of our foreign policy to LIMIT if not ABOLISH nuclear weapons, not put them front and center in a way that hasn't been seen since the 60's.

So, however disappointing her hypocrisy may be, it pales in comparison to her "toughness" in warfare.

2. No, Not "So Long As"
America needs to be the leader in limiting nuclear weapons in the world, providing assurances to these other countries that it is in their own national security to limit their nuclear arsenal (and to prevent other countries like Iran from developing them). Bush removed us from the ABM treaty during his first term and has provoked the world by trying to place "missile shields" in Europe. Not only that, his respective treatment of Iraq and North Korea pointed out clearly why it is vital for so-called "rogue" nations to develop nuclear weapons before we can detect and/or stop them.

This is obviously the exact wrong direction. But Clinton has made virtually no signal to break from that general trajectory - save that she isn't going to immediately bomb Iran. In actuality, she has served to legitimize the role of nuclear weapons as part of the 21st century landscape.

Ps - I've been a big Mookie fan since I was a wee little kid. In my first Mets game at Shea, he was first up and hit a home run on his opening at bat. And I can't count the number of bases I gleefully watched him steal. No substitute for seeing baseball live...
