Texas Church Cancels Memorial Service for Gay

ARLINGTON, Texas (Aug. 10) - A megachurch canceled a memorial service for a Navy veteran 24 hours before it was to start because the deceased was gay.

"It's a slap in the face," Kathleen Wright said after a church in Texas canceled her brother's memorial service because he was gay. "It's like, 'Oh, we're sorry he died, but he's gay so we can't help you."

1. This contretemps certainly provides some food for thought.
If I were to try to act as impartial judge of responsibility and fault in this instance, the job had better pay well.
Allowing for the coloring and distortion that emotion brings and the fact that both sides feel the other is misguided, there appears to be a serious lack of communication at base. Each side, assuming equal honesty, is behaving in accordance with their own beliefs.

The miscommunication could have occurred because of assumptions made or even a mild attempt to cover up manipulation. While I deplore the lack of vision and humanity that translates into uncomprehending bigotry, the solution, if there ever is one, won't hinge on proving who has the greater blame.

I would like to see a group of gay people band together and invite th pastor of this church to address a meeting-a small one-and take questions, in other words-hold a discussion-to find common ground and not let the ill feeling engendered by this problem to grow into even more animus.

3. I see no blame on the family's side
I see a bunch of assholes who pervert the good name of Jesus. Glad you can be soo even handed. Invite the pastor to a meeting ? Ha Christianity has become a vehicle of hate, they should be ashamed of themselves but they are not; they are lowlife hypocrites who wouldn't recognize Jesus if he came up and bit them.

2. There are two polls on that article about the situation.. make sure to DU them!

I feel bad for Ms. Wright and her family..

Would that church have told the Cheney's that their daughter couldn't have her service there if she passed on?

4. Done, and done.
If the Church were to do that, Cheney would probably shoot Gary Simons in the face.
