Skinner, could you PLEASE do something about your search engines?

Infighting between DUers would decrease if we all had access to the same information. Unfortunately, some of that information is buried in the archives and finding it is impossible. Especially now when newcomers are using poll numbers from unreliable sources, it is impossible to convince that newcomer that his source is unreliable when the proof is from an internal blog investigation and is not out on the MSM.

Case in point, I'm looking for the thread that occurred prior to an election, which revealed that Gallup polled more Republicans than Democrats, and not surprisingly, came up with results showing a double digit lead for the Republican. Who can find that thread in less than five minutes using these search engines?

and find that thread. I'm still in shock that someone who was on DU called that bit of evidence regarding Gallup, "A leftwing myth."

Lots of websites have Google to search their site....why not DU?

that someone outside DU can get access to a post which might lead to you. I know there is some bleeding through now, but I don't want to open the door completely.

regarding the gallup poll being skewered. Those same words do not give me the same results on DU because it is not the same as google who has a brazillion dollars to spend on its search engine...this is not a primary search engine.

16. I've generally not had too much trouble because it was usually an

old post of mine that I was looking for and I had a good idea where to look. But, when you're in a heated debate, good search engines are imperative. Especially when an old DU post is the source of information which you can't find anywhere else!

17. I'm using the Googlebar Lite extension in Firefox

Just by typing "Gallup more Republicans" and choosing 'site search' from the dropdown list, I got several threads, including this one.

Or, you can type into Google - "site:www.democraticunderground.com" followed by your search term

Edit to add - You can also create your own custom search page for DU or any other site, instructions are here. I did so and added the bookmark to my Firefox bookmark toolbar.
