Where the DEMs squandered their majority and really showed ineptness
was definitely in the FISA vote, but the true measure that they're being out classed and run by corporate interests is in the Farm Bill that was passed by the House. Now there ain't much that's sexy about the farm bill and when the talking heads turn to that subject most folks just tune out which is a shame because next to the defense bill the Farm Bill is the largest outlay of funds for the federal government and also the largest corporate welfare bill on the planet. And it effects the entire planet, everything from our foreign policy regarding food aid to developing countries to bio fuels and research into renewable energy is addressed to some degree or another in the Farm Bill. And with the DEMs in control this year there was a rare opportunity to make a radical change in a outdated and outmoded bill that basically hasn't changed much since after the second world war. but it din't happen. Despite a lot bluster and blather and bugle tootin, the Farm Bill passed by Pelosi and company was barely any more progressive than the one passed by Newt Gingrich and his henchmen, which was the blue print for for Tom DeLay and his GOPosse's Bill. Both bills are giving billions to industrial Ag interests and a mere pittance will actually ever pass through the fingers of any that actually touch the soil and grow the food.It stands right now as a monument to the failure of how we go about electing our representatives, or at least how we fund those elections and the system of special interest lobbying that is so beloved by both ruling parties in Washington. Its just another example of an opportunity squandered, of hopes raised and expectations shot down by business as usual.Except this doesn't even rise to that level.Because usually you at least get kissed when you get fucked. When the DEMs got fucked with the FISA vote they didn't get kissed, they didn't even get the courtesy of dead flowers sent the next day.$5 hookers in Tijuana's Zona Roja get treated better.
