The People I Talk to Are Warming Up To Hillary |
|
Edited on Thu Aug-16-07 09:16 PM by ruggerson
My SO has been a fan all along. I've been leaning more towards Edwards. But I have had five different conversations in the last two days, each with someone who started out this electoral "season" (long and grinding as it is) as not being very predisposed towards Hillary Clinton.
Every single person I talked to had virtually identical reactions to her over the last few months: they saw her as tough, confident, resolute and charming. Each person mentioned how surprised they were at themselves by this phenomenon. One of them said she could have never imagined herself actually liking Hillary, but after watching her performances in the last few debates, she is being won over.
By no measure is this the effect of the MSM, folks. These are all very intelligent, skeptical, media wary, politically savvy folks, who can and do think for themselves.
If Hillary is having this effect on previously skeptical Democrats, one has to wonder if that bodes well for swing voters in the general, should she be nominated.
I don't think she has it wrapped up, by any means. I think Edwards has a real shot in Iowa, and I think an early win like that changes the dynamic of the race overnight and propels him to the top of the heap. But, I'm damn glad that we've got such good candidates in the upper tier this time. Any one of them, Clinton, Edwards or Obama, will be a rock solid nominee.

I'm on the phones for Hillary and I get that response often, especially from independents or as we say in NH Unaffiliated.

And it turned into a bitch slap party.
25 Homosexuals drining & talking politics does not mix! LOL.
At the last count 18 Hillary, 5 Edwards, and 2 Obama.

27. The more that slimey Rove tries to bash her the more he turns |
|
people towards her....when the WH is so thin skinned and frightened by someone who actually speaks back to them and doesn't back down..and doesn't say she "misspoke"......
and the WH has a press conference to say so....it's a good day...because it shows the American people that the WH is afraid of everyone and everthing.....they are weak...and they are cowards....

8. It's happening because it's getting to "reality check" time. |
|
And Hillary has shown she can run a disciplined campaign that stays on message and is not afraid to take advantages of an opponent when they leave an opening.
More and more, Democrats want to win, are sick of losing and want the White House back.
Hillary, as of late August 2007, is showing that she is ready for the challenge against the GOP.
She's dumbfounded me that she has done this well against Obama and Edwards, but those be the facts.
Campaign wise, she's showing she's in a whole other league.
If the NEA endorses her, the contest for the nomination is over.
There is a movement toward her going on now because your experience is my experience with so many of my longtime Democratic friends...they are gravitating toward Hillary. They may love Dennis and Barack, they may have started out with John Edwards, but they are going Clinton.

9. I've had the same impression . . . |
|
my mom was initially for Hillary just because she was a woman (and was leaning towards Edwards also), but now that she's seen Hillary in a few debates, she's totally passionate and gung-ho for Hillary.
Also, one of my friends, who previously volunteered for Biden, e-mailed me a few days ago and told me that he was really feeling good about Hillary and is now leaning toward her.
More and more, the people I talk to are increasingly impressed by Hillary.

I wasn't surprised and, quite frankly, her resilience is amazing. Her campaign has proceeded virtually mistake-free.
I just prefer Obama of the current selection.

This kind of dark obsession is really not healthy for you...
I hope you have arranged for support once the election is over...wouldn't want anyone to feel the need to pull an Edmund Ruffin!

29. If I was truly obsessed |
|
I'd rant hysterical about threats against my person. Why woud someone feel the need to pull an Emund Ruffin against me??
But no, the one thing I have learned at DU is that these supposed moral causes are a bunch of hooey. The people who have need are suffering too much to do anything about it, and the people who pretend to care really care more about their political agenda than the person actually suffering. Not much to get all Edmund Ruffin about, in the end.

Those are personality traits, not political positions. I prefer to judge politicians by what they say, rather than how they say it.

18. That's how people vote for a President |
|
they look for someone who's on their side of the aisle, but specific stands on the issues don't matter as much as their gut reaction to the candidate.
