Obama Praises Israel Aid Hike
Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) welcomed a hike in defense assistance to Israel.

--
Obama, a front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination, said the assistance was necessary because Bush administration policies had endangered Israel. "The Administration's failed policies in Iraq, in a war that never should have been authorized, have strengthened Iran and emboldened Hamas and Hezbollah," he said in a statement Thursday. "That makes it more important than ever that the United States live up to its commitment to ensure Israel's qualitative military edge in a dangerous region. For that reason, I support the agreement on military assistance reached today."

Israeli leaders, who regard President Bush as a close friend, have questioned some aspects of the conduct of the Iraq war but worry that a U.S. withdrawal now would endanger Israel.

2. So, the mistakes of the past seem to be justifying more mistakes. More guns
and firepower for these countries in not a solution.

4. Yeah, billions for Israel, a nation which provides cradle to grave
Edited on Fri Aug-17-07 03:09 PM by Benhurst
national health for its people, from The World's Only Superpower, which doesn't provide squat for it's own citizens, lavish health care for our rulers to the contrary. And just where is the money coming from? The last time I heard, the U.S. Government was borrowing to stay afloat.

Yeah, way to go, Obama. I'm sure the rest of "our" leaders will fall in line right behind you.

Instead of this pandering to the merchants of death, how about some of those "new" ideas we've been promised?

3. How does Obama feel about threatening Iran?

Suppose that an attack on Iran would stir up Syria? Where does it end?

18. Um.. the "invasion" into Lebanon followed Hezbollah
invasion into Israel, killing and kidnapping Israeli soldiers, and then shelling Israeli cities.

How would you feel if Mexico started shelling Texas and California?

Oh, forgot. There are enough people here who would welcome such an attack, will blame it on us, of course. Thankfully, Israel is not a Christian nation and does not believe in turning the other cheek, being attacked and thank the attackers.

Now go and clean your puke dribbling down your chin.

21. Please
The Israeli soldiers were in Lebanon, violating sovereign borders when captured or killed. They were used as an excuse, as was seen later that no effort was made to rescue them.

I watched this play out, play by play, including when Kofi Annon announced that Israel had attacked UN peacekeepers in the area, were using cluster bombs and white phosphorus, and finally, the US blocked any effort by the UN to put a stop to the fighting.

You can accept the truth, or you can continue the spin. Which will it be?

24. Wrong.
The soldiers were not in Lebanon, and even if you believe the disproved crap from "ifamericansknew", Hizb'allah is not the Lebanese army and no business attacking, "arresting" Israeli soldiers anymore than the Minutemen would if Mexican soldiers crossed into Texas. It is unbelievable the amount of bullshit lies spread when it comes to Israel. If it paints Israel in a negative light, well it must be true. :eyes:

If only neither existed, I am sure all would be right with the world! :sarcasm:

This is sort of a la Clinton, speaking out of both sides of the mouth: I don't like the Iraq War, but it's made Iran stronger so now we have to , , .

For once, can someone be proud to stand for peace as opposed to trying to come across like a war hawk. Believe it or not, some Americans want PEACE and don't want to see constant wars.

20. The article had an interesting tidbit that Obama bashers might want to read...
"The Bush administration this week signed an agreement with Israel increasing its assistance from $2.4 billion a year to $3 billion a year over ten years. The assistance is part of a package that uses incentives to encourage multiple parties -- the Palestinians, Egypt and Saudi Arabia as well as Israel -- to move forward on Israeli-Palestinian peace. "

Nah....we don't want that....

So allocating a bunch of money to Israel to buy a bunch of expensive weapons from us is going to lead to peace?

Here's a topic worth discussing...what else could we be doing with that 3 Billion?
