Fred Thompson and More Republican "Bait & Switch"
Edited on Sat Aug-18-07 02:09 AM by NativeTexan
Fred Thompson said Friday that if he was elected president, (although, he isn't running as of now), he would work to overturn Roe v Wade AND would fight for a constitutional amendment that would overturn the law that requires one state to honor the laws of another one, since it would mean that gay marriage would have to be recognized by state if those in question were married in a state that allows it.

Now, for the purpose of full disclosure, I am a HUGE Fred Thompson, the actor, fan. And I was also, as a teenager watching the Watergate hearing, so impressed with his and other Republican's dealings to get to the truth during Sam Ervin's Senate Watergate Committee. I also believe that the man, if in office, would look almost "liberal" by Bush Administration standards.

However, his talking this ultra-rightwing-neo-conservative garbage, to try to awaken that definitely apathetic party of the Republican Party is really chapping me where the sun don't shine! (Not to mention that once he throws his hat in the ring for real, TNT will have to stop showing so many of the great Law & Order episodes that he happens to appear in).

The Right seems to think that the entire world rotates on the axis of Roe v Wade and gay unions. And no, I really DON'T think that even Thompson can give these issues legs anymore. But, as Democrats, we have GOT to work to keep the old Republican bait and switch type of politics to take over another election cycle. Republican's, or at least the majority of the nationally recognized ones, refuse to embrace Bush's Civil War in Iraq, yet refuse to stand up and refute it. Our party mantra needs to entail bringing out the truth in all things Bush, but also has to involve either bringing these cowards out of the shadows, and make them take a stand on important things, such as the war.

If we allow, as a party AND as Americans, to once again allow the conversation to be centered on "edge-of-the-blade" issues, and keep REAL HOMELAND SECURITY issues up front and center. Issues such as, for instance, the war, increasing the funding for first responders so that not only will we be able to have the very best in efforts to battle the sure terrorist activities that are in our future, and taking our military emphasis from the hands of war-mongers, who want war for business purposes and not national security.

One other issue that I believe Dems should be looking at is illegal immigration. I know that the left-wing of our party would like to ease up on illegals for many reasons, some for political expediency and others for humanitarian purposes. I too would like to increase the rolls of voters in our party, and also know that the economic realities in Mexico and other countries in the lower areas of our hemisphere.

But the reality of post-9/11 America, is not that we are so much at risk from foriegn invaders who would try to fly in from Iraq after "training in Iraq". The reality is two-fold.

First, there are much more likely than not, individuals and cells already WITHIN this country, as before, waiting to do us harm. And second the obvious way of entering is through the same means as the illegal immigrants are using. One being the precious border of my beloved Texas.

And I don't want anyone to read this and say, "damn, Cato is anti-immigration", because if not for LEGAL immigration, I wouldn't be here myself. But if you break our laws, doesn't matter if you are American, legal immigrants, illegal immigrants OR the entire Bush Administration, you MUST be held accountable. That not only includes the illegal immigrants, but maybe even more importantly, the EMPLOYERS who illegally hire them.

But my priority point, in this post, is keeping the TERRORISTS from bringing in even MORE reinforcements. This CAN be done without gutting our Constitution, and it MUST be done. Gutting the Constitution for any reason, especially the way that Bush/Cheney/Gonzales are doing it, means just one thing to me....THE TERRORISTS WOULD WIN!

But ignoring enforcing our laws and soverign borders should be the NUMBER ONE priority in our legitimate fight against terrorism. I am, for the most part, a left-leaning moderate. However, when it comes to protecting the lives of my family, my state AND my COUNTRY, there is no left, right or center. There is, (despite what the Village Idiot and his evil ventriloquist believe), only AMERICAN!

So, District Attorney Arthur Branch, (aka Fred Thompson), need to be headed off before the GOP (Good Ole Pedophiles) turns the American people by "misdirecting" them, with what in today's world are second or third tier issues, in an effort to take their minds off, of all things, their OWN SECURITY!!

Also, I really WOULD like to see Thompson back on Law & Order in the future, I really believe he was born to play the part!

But....I'm just sayih'.....
