Millions in federal money went to battleground congressional states and districts. | View larger image
WASHINGTON — Top Commerce and Treasury Departments officials appeared with Republican candidates and doled out millions in federal money in battleground congressional districts and states after receiving White House political briefings detailing GOP election strategy.

Political appointees in the Treasury Department received at least 10 political briefings from July 2001 to August 2006, officials familiar with the meetings said. Their counterparts at the Commerce Department received at least four briefings — all in the election years of 2002, 2004 and 2006.

1. This could become the final nail in the coffin.
If this can be proved Bush will go.

2. Good to see someone else writing about this.
This has been my concern about the GSA briefing. In that case, we are talking about control of $60 BILLION in spending.

This tactic was also used in the Republican Congress. Earmarks and appropriations were directed to specific districts to politically benefit newly elected members, to make them "shine" at the local level.

Another alarming aspect of the briefings was how Karl Rove's slideshow illustrated the political benefit, literally in number of seats in Congress, that the Republicans will derive if they have a "War President" in 2008. The don't just steal our money to keep power, they go to the other side of the world and kill people for a few more seats in Congress.

5. It seems as though 3x a week or more, stuff like this comes out...
usually buried in the nether regions. But it shows me that the D congress is doing an excellent job of taking these monsters on. Now it is up to the press to keep the pressure on.
