Why I am supporting John Edwards
Thought I would toss out a positive thread with all the negativity here today (that I too have contributed to  )

These are not in any particular order and are a very small sample of issues he is campaigning on that are important to me. YMMV

1. I believe his healthcare plan is the most feasible to bring us to UHC

http://johnedwards.com/issues/health-care/

2. He is taking a very strong stance on alternative energy

http://johnedwards.com/issues/energy/

3. He is taking a strong pro-education stance and supports college-for-all

http://johnedwards.com/issues/education/college-for-everyone/

4. His stance on strengthening the military as DEFENSIVE and rooting out the corruption within it

http://johnedwards.com/issues/military/

http://johnedwards.com/issues/homeland-security/

5. LONG overdue simplification of the tax code

http://johnedwards.com/issues/tax-simplification/

6. Going post-Enron on the predatory lenders

http://johnedwards.com/issues/predatory-mortgages/

7. Standing up for those of us who are paid for work, not paid for having money

http://johnedwards.com/issues/working-families/

On top of all of this (and I barely scratched the surface), I think he is the most electable in the GE and will be able to win over the indies and the (R)s who are fed up with the same old same old.

3. This is why I support him, too.
I can state exactly why and I have his plans to back it up. How refreshing!

He is the man with the plans.

4. Yael, this is DU
You can't post positive views of your candidate without mentioning that all other candidates are actually homicidal aliens from the planet of the nut jugglers who want to eat our children.

Just kidding. Thanks for upping the level of discussion around here. I appreciate it.

8. I think I am seeing a trend here... A great on at that.
Over the last few weeks, I see more DUers moving in the direction of Edwards. Iowa appears to be moving in this direction as well.
The only question is. Will this trend continue and is the direction all of America or at least the Democratic party is moving?

It has appeared to me for some time now that John Edwards is the only candidate out there with a real message that addresses real issues in America and not a campaign of fear mongering that has dominated campaigns for the last 6 years.

14. I'm seeing it too -
and also over at Daily Kos. It's about the issues as Yael put together so well. Edwards is all about issues and what he's going to do once in the White House. And I trust him, as I think more and more are seeing he is going to stay true to his word. Being progressive I believe is the way of the Democratic party, change is what we need and badly, Edwards will deliver.

10. Made a donation to his campaign last night for all of
the above reasons. He is my choice unless Al jumps in.

He has become seasoned in his time since 2004 and worked for all the right causes.

More than the rest, he seems to understand and appreciate the causes and solutions to our vanishing middle class, with the savvy to appoint the right people to get the job done internationally.

I do worry about Elizabeth -- she looked to have lost an alarming amount of weight in a recent pic.

But that situation will not deter them - or even just him if it comes to that sad fact - he has what it takes to lead us to sanity and reality.

13. I like the way he puts his Democratic platform together without diluting it
by offering too many olive branches to the Republicans. There's a difference in appointing a Republican to a position, based on your own decision-making process; and quite another to invite Republicans to the table to negotiate something they never had any right to negotiate for in the first place.

16. K & R - All you said and more...
Edited on Sun Aug-19-07 10:18 AM by Triana
He's out there talking - saying all the things the other candidates should be saying but aren't - latest: "robber barons" - that's exactly what the Republicans/corporate party IS and all they've ever been. John Edwards SAYS it and he talks about how and why and what he's going to do about that.

He is a SELF-MADE man - didn't inherit his worth and he MADE it by fighting the ROBBER BARONS, those predatory bastards who prey on common working people - and WINNING. We NEED someone who knows how to do that in the White House.

THAT'S WHY THE REPUBLICANS HAVE AIMED THEIR ATTACK MACHINES AT HIM. He is the nemesis that his aimed his radar right between their predatory, robbing, money-grubbing, status-quo eyes and they know it.

He's OUR ally - and ally of the people and one of the FEW we have these days. I think he's remarkable, likeable, genuine.

and glad to see a sensible post that talks about Edwards' positives, rather than the negatives of the other candidates.
