13. I had the most wonderful time! |
|
I loved it there, loved Broadway. Most of all we were taken for a day of wonderful fun, touring and just plain friendship by ThomCat. I have not had the time to put down any real thoughts like I wanted to since we got back. We move on Monday but the house is not entirely done yet. Been too busy for more than just lines or two here. I will let you know later and thanks for your help before I left.

14. What a terrific match -- your great spirit in a truly world capital. |
|
Sounds like you had a very formidable guide, too.
I'll be patient on that update, and you take your time and get settled in.
Say hello to your beautiful quadropeds you keep for me.

to be certain the horses are well watered and hayed and to give my little sweetie goats their "night night snack". Gods I am such a pushover! I will give them all a Crusoe kiss!

I have been living in my barn office since late December trying to keep up with the house and because of the goat surprise and everything that went along with it. SO, I am already here and will do it all then come in and fall into my little lonely bed. Monday is the beginning of getting back to life! Now I am really going out. They will be well kissed, should I now refer to you as Uncle Crusoe?

20. It was Joni Mitchell what give me the name, ma'am. "And live like |
|
Old Crusoe..." she says in that first album.
She seemed like a learned lady, she did, and the name just stuck.

22. You said it. She's the best. |
|
The tune is on her first album, called either JONI MITCHELL or SONG TO A SEAGULL (it's catalogued as the first title but she draws a bird formation on the cover to say the second title).
David Crosby produced the album.
The verse is:
I came to the city And lived like old Crusoe On an island of noise In a cobblestone sea And the beaches were concrete And the stars paid a light bill And the blossoms hung false On their store window trees My dreams with the seagulls fly Out of reach out of cry
--a passage about her time in New York City. There are a handful of songs about New York on that album -- glimpses that no one else has ever quite matched, IMO. In one she's riding in a taxi and writes:
"I saw an aging cripple selling Superman balloons..."
Lines like that knock me out.

And even if he is too old, nut cuttin' would be an interesting prospect for ol' Dick to contemplate. (After a day of cuttin' many years ago, my dad and some of his drunk idiot friends ran an old bull into the pen, said "he's the last one!", ha-ha-ha on us. Big Dick wouldn't be near as scary as that wild-eyed old bull was....)
