If Vietnam was so great, why did Bush avoid fighting in it?
Is every war Republicans support but are afraid to fight in automatically Vietnam? Is Bush picking the Vietnam scab because he wants America bleeding from more than the wound he gave us. Does he think we're that stupid? Will we re-fight the Vietnam war among ourselves and let Bush get away without the tarring and feathering he deserves for Iraq?

A guy who hid in the National Guard and sent another guy to Vietnam in his place is calling the majority of Americans cowards. We're cowards if we thought getting out of Vietnam was right. We're cowards if we want out of the gut-wrenching futility of a war Bush started? It takes a lot of chutzpah for Bush to be calling anyone a coward.

Would anyone have voted for Bush or supported his drive for the Iraq War if he had told us it was going to be like Vietnam -- but that Vietnam was OK?

This guy is naked as a jaybird and pole-dancing at the podium. Is anyone gonna notice?

Sorry for the rant!

2. Getting out of Vietnam was most definitely the right thing to do.
the only problem is that it was not soon enough. I was in the very last unit to leave after the ceasefire February 1973, except for the POWs.

3. Bush would have fought in Vietnam, but it wasn't as great as cocaine, alcohol,
and loose women. (Not necessarily in that order.)

4. The speech was bad...really bad...
To stand in front of Real Veterans....men who answered the call...and then say that we left Vietnam too soon? :wtf:

If that's not bad enough he got the facts wrong...He claimed the Khmer Rouge started it's murderous path after the US left.....it was going on while our troop levels increased....

They can't even get historical facts right...all they gotta do is read some books..

9. What kills me even more
Is the Veteran's groups who provide him with a cheering audience. How could any veteran with even a shred of dignity give this spoiled rich bastard who dodged his generations war, a platform for this ignorant speech?

This pains me to say this, especially since my husband is a veteran, but I have a problem with American Legion organizations who blindly support this idiot, never speaking out when Pres. Lunatic cuts veterans benefits, combat pay, trashes the military service of Democratic Veterans, etc. Did they speak out when the story ran about Walter Reed?

12. My father, my uncle, my sister and myself are all former military
service men and women......

I agree with you...I can't understand how they continually and blindly follow this failure of the man..

Their own disability checks and care cut to shreds by this Administration.

Welcome to DU!!:hi:

7. I was incredulous that he gave this speech
and that he actually seems to think he did a good one. What a total fucking idiot. Do you think he even read the speech before hand?
And if he did he must not have had any idea what the words meant because he is so fucking fucking stupid.
(I hate to use the word fuck in a sentence about Bush. Fuck is a good thing. Bush is a bad, very bad thing.)

8. Bush wanted to fly in Vietnam, he really did.
It was just too far from Texas. He kept running out of fuel. What's a guy to do?

11. Yer damned straight! And how many Viet Cong ever invaded a Texican bar? Huh?
Well, after about 1974, they actually were owning bars in Texas, but by God, when Geore was in the air, the Viet Cong knowed it was best to stay home.
