What can be done to make the primaries fair? NC does not vote.... |
|
until April, and I am sure there are other states as late or later. By the time we get to vote - it is just a formality.
I don't know the answer, but I do know the way it is now is not right. That a handful of states get to pick our nominee is NOT the American way. The fact that this election has gone "as long" as it has it not typical.
I still think voting all on the same day is the answer. If the candidates know this ahead of time, they will do whatever is necessary to campaign in all 50 states - maybe for not as long a time.
If it's broke, fix it. It IS broke, and needs to be fixed.

The states with the closest margins during the last election should have earliest primaries.

8. Iowa, New Hampshire, and Missouri, New Mexico, even Arizona |

All fall in the extremely close category and they all had early primaries. I guess that makes this year's primary schedule a big success.
BTW--I'll go on record as saying that the idea that the primary's are "front loaded" is a false media construct.

7. Divide the country into 4 regions. |
|
Hold primaries in, say, 2 or 3 states from each region on one Tuesday, then do the same 2 weeks later, making sure to mix both large and small states into each week's mix. Another alternative would be to hold all primaries simultaneously, although I dislike that option, because it terminates the good press coverage we get.

Edwards.
Isn't NC in June now?
If voting were the same day, only the richest candidate would win.
