Great quote from Al Gore's "The Assault on Reason" regarding candidates |
|
Page 8.
"The inherent value or validity of political propositions put forward by candidates for office is now largely irrelevant compared with the image-based advertising campaigns they use to shape the perceptions of voters".
Hmmm...

1. I really love Al Gore... I just wish he'd learn English. |

Maybe he should get Kristin to ghost-write his books and speeches.

2. There's nothing wrong with the quoted sentence ... |
|
Seems pretty understandable to me. And also correct.

7. And this is one reason why he lost |

talking in perfectly correct English but at level way above most voters.
Same for Kerry and same may be for Obama if he is not careful.

11. A book is one thing ... not everybody is going to read it |
|
A speech is another.
On the other hand, I don't remember anybody criticizing Kennedy for sounding "too intelligent." With *, we get "Great Moments in Presidential Speeches."

3. This image based advertising is what brought us Bush. |
|
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 03:31 PM by Uncle Joe
If there had been any sincere analysis by and reporting of Bush's proposals as compared to Gore's, Bush would be bankrupting some little league base ball team today and virtually all of humanity would be much happier.

5. Yes, Bush was "a guy that people wanted to have a beer with" |
|
Did the media cover actual issues? NO.
Will the media cover actual issues for 2008? I doubt it.

6. Also, no one in the media ever mentioned that bush was an alcoholic |
|
and they couldn't have a beer with him. Any good Democratic leaning media person would have said that and I bet the question would never been asked again.
Maybe the media should have asked...Who would you rather have help you cheat on your exams? (Not very good English...but you get the idea.)

Gawd I hate them.
I really feel things will go down differently this election. Mostly because I can't imagine people sitting still for another BS election season again. They are wholly responsible for whitewashing Junior's entire shoddy curriculum vitae, military record, police records and legal proceedings.
Never again.

8. Damn it! I HATE that being... |

...smart - or, God help you, educated - is a BAD thing in today's politics. What is the particular value of a medicocracy? I WANT people smarter than me to be making critical decisions.
A little integrity and some good intentions wouldn't be awful, either.
