Clinton insists he's steering clear of the veepstakes
Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 09:40 AM by Freddie Stubbs
February 17, 2004 -- ALBANY - Former President Bill Clinton said yesterday he is not touting retired Gen. Wesley Clark for the No. 2 spot on a ticket with Sen. John Kerry.

Clinton, denying a report in yesterday's Post, said he is staying clear of having any influence on the selection of a Democratic vice-presidential candidate. "It is a deeply personal decision who you pick as your running mate," Clinton told The Post.

"I have not taken sides with regard to any of the candidates for president. I like Wes Clark, but it would be disloyal of me to favor any individual when so many have been helpful to me," Clinton added.

The Post reported Clinton was calling Democratic powerbrokers last week to press Kerry to tap the retired general as his running mate.

1. "The POST reported" -- Murdoch paper....
We have got to start "considering the source."

9. The Kerry campaign denied it, and Bill himself denied it.
How does anyone get an 'endorsement' out of that?

:wtf:

10. I admit
I might be imagining what I want to happen. Sorry, can't help it. But I did say veiled as in stealthy Bill speak.

3. I think the ploy here is to bring out the Clinton haters...
by making it seem as if Clinton is hand picking the VP. Once again the menace of the Clenis rears it's ugly head.

5. As per usual
Listened to the Limpwad for a few minutes yesterday and the theme was Clinton planted the Kerry Fling story to give Clark an opportunity in the nomination. The Ditto Freeps eat this up with a spoon.

"..."It is a deeply personal decision who you pick as your running mate," Clinton told The Post. ..."

In the Democratic party the choice of VP is not supposed to be part of the democratic process.

The implication seems to be that the convention is only supposed to ratify the candidate's choice.

7. That true, by and large.
It's extremely rare for the convention to do anything else. The last time a candidate left the choice to the delegates was 1956, when Sen. Kefauver beat out Sen. Kennedy.

12. Not only Murdoch, but CNN was wrong too.
Makes ya wonder about how independent CNN is.
