Why do (mostly Republican) corporate CEO's prefer Obama over DLCer Hillary Clinton?
I thought Obama was the antithesis of the DLC, which is pro-corporate, right? Wasn't Clinton I pro-corporate too? Isn't HRC routinely called a "corporate whore" by many, particularly Obama supporters? Wasn't HRC vilified just weeks ago for the "Business Loves Hillary" article by the same people who think it is great corporate America loves their candidate?

5. They can't prefer Obama to Clinton...
If anything the two are more or less equal in that regard. So, it stands to reason that by stating their support for Obama, they're hoping that it'll give Hillary yet ANOTHER boost. Americans are just dumb enough to believe it.

6. Obama is a far better advocate for them than Clinton
Edited on Thu Aug-23-07 01:59 PM by draft_mario_cuomo
1) He is charismatic (HRC is not)
2) Progressives would scrutinize every breath HRC takes while Obama has already proven he can move goalposts and redefine progressivism (i.e. making many progressives love the Lieberman obsession with bipartisan consensus) for the Obama wing of the progressive movement
3) He is a great speaker (HRC is not)
4) He is a "stealth" candidate with no record to be scrutinized by progressives like Clinton

So if they are the same on policy, as they are, the choice is clear. Obama would be a far better salesman of their agenda than Clinton.

4. They prefer Edwards and Kucinich over Clinton, too.
:)

Who cares, they are CEOs! The last thing they want is what's good for America.

7. That's not quite the story...
"Regardless of a CEO's party affiliation, the survey indicates that CEOs don't find any presidential candidate overwhelmingly inspiring at this time," said Edward M. Kopko, CEO of Chief Executive Group. "They are looking for real leadership and common sense solutions on important issues, such as tax, fiscal and energy policies, healthcare plans, and the war on terror rather than populist political rhetoric."

Voicing their dismay over the heightened partisanship on the Hill, leaders underscored the fact that "politics instead of government was not smart."

"We are in the grips of a very polarized political situation where nothing gets done, as the two parties spend their energy in posturing and trying to gain advantage for 2008. I do not see anyone on either side making significant changes to this situation post-2008," said Robert W. Zinnecker of Zinnecker Consulting Services.

What you stated does nothing to change the underlying fact that ceos prefer Obama. They are not going to support a candidate who is what Obama is advertised as over Clinton. Self-interest comes first.

10. They are looking for the same...some one that lets them get by with anything.
Edward's want cater to the corporate world, he is for the mid class and lower class. Big Corporations are fighting Edwards as hard as they can..And if democrats are carefull, they will pick our candidate, and I don't think it is Hillary.

11. Republicans have been hating Hillary for so long, they've forgotten why
That's how she can alienate the progressive wing of her base without picking up any Republican support. Reverse triangulation.

13. Historically speaking Democrats are good for the overall stock market
It's a myth that Democrats hurt business. CEO's know this. Republicans a good for a particular business like oil companies or the Defense industry. Democrats tend to spread the wealth abit which is much better for the overall economy. Republicans just give the wealth to their pet companies that help make them wealthy.

16. 60 years of Democratic success, 60 years of Republican excuses
“THE PARTY WITH THE BEST RECORD OF SERVING REPUBLICAN ECONOMIC VALUES IS THE DEMOCRATS, AND IT ISN’T EVEN CLOSE!” -Michael Kingsley-

1). FEDERAL SPENDING: since 1960 Republicans increased Federal Spending by 71% more than have Democrats

2). FEDERAL DEBT: since 1960 Republicans have increased the National debt by 100% more per year than have Democrats.

3). GROSS DOMESTIC PRODUCT: since 1921, adjusted for inflation, Democrats outproduce Republicans by 43% . Starting in 1940 the Democratic advantage is 23% better.

4). REAL PER CAPITA INCOME: since 1960 Democrats have outperformed Republicans by 30%. (This is perhaps the most important economic statistic of all)

5). INFLATION: since 1960, Democrats outperform Republicans 3.13% to 3.89%

6). UNEMPLOYMENT: since 1960 it decreases in an average Democratic year by 0.3% to 5.33%, and increases in average Republican year by 1.1% to 6.38%.

7). JOB CREATION: from 1945 to 2003, Democrats produced 174,200 jobs per month, Republicans have only produced 60,600 per month. Every time a Democrat succeeds a Republican, job creation soars. Every time a Republican succeeds a Democrat job creation plummets. NO EXCEPTIONS!

8 ). DOW JONES AVERAGE: since 1921 the DOW has increased by 52% more under Democratic administrations

9). THE BOND MARKET: since 1940 the value of 10 year Treasury bonds rose 1.2% under Democrats and fell 0.5% under Republicans

14. the last thing these republican "ceo's" want
is a democrat in the whitehouse. they are just teasing us.

they figure that even though repubs HATE the clintons, it would be much easier for them to bring out the republican core of bigots, rallying around hate, and prejudice, supplementing with greed, then calling out the so-called "christian" vote by every pulpit, to beat a black, rather than a woman.

the only person easier to beat than a black (in their warped minds), would be an actual, for REAL homoSEXual.

sad.

and before you get your panties/boxers in a wad, not the quote marks around christian, meaning they are anything BUT.

15. Obama "08
In the heady days after bursting onto the national stage after
his electrifing key-note speech at the 2004 Democratic
Convention,Barack Obama came to speak at the tiny village of
Depue, Illinois (pop. 2800).
Barack spoke with us gathered there, not at us. He thought
before answering every question put to him and ACTUALLY
answered the question asked. He spoke of hope. He spoke of
empowering working people. And he stayed and shook every hand,
signed every autograph request and was among the last people
to leave the VFW hall where the gatering was held.
I was the last in line. As he signed a copy of his speech from
the convention that I had downloaded from the internet, I told
Barack of the hope people saw in him and said, "Don't get
the big-head Barack." Without hesitating a moment he
gestured toward his wife Michele and said, "She won't let
me."
Obama is not just eloquent, measured, thoughtful, and
principled, he's authentic. He is our best hope, for our
party, for our country, and for our future.

-Replace the abomination in the White House with an
ObamaNation in 2008-
