Dennis Kucinich, Cleveland Public Power, The Illuminating Company, Cleveland Trust
Kucinich bucked the corporate system of mutual back scratching and was forced out of office as the mayor of Cleveland back in the 1970's.
Perhaps the name calling is a valid descriptor of the majority of contenders for the Democratic nomination.

Cleveland Public Power is going strong with lower electricity rates for citizens of Cleveland due to Kucinich' stand. He took the hit for the citizens of Cleveland. Any other candidates willing to do so for the USA?

1. I love how Kos STILL has that wrong... still buys the 'worst mayor' spin.

ugh.

You'd think a blogger with his level of exposure would care more about the facts...

12. Kos denied there was anything fraudulent about the election, didn't it?
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 01:11 PM by KCabotDullesMarxIII
Or was it both the last elections?

On principle, I've not read anything on their site since. It takes a lot a splainin'.

2. That's what I like about him. His feet are on the ground.

I said in another post that he's the Michael Moore of our candidates. I don't feel "spun" when listening to what he says.

But the negatives creep in. How ideological can a president be? He has to join hands with the other side to accomplish things. That stuff is the easy part. Dennis Kucinich has a clear conscience. He is not beholden to anyone. And especially his previous votes.

I don't foresee anything that will keep me from voting for him in the primary.

By the way, thanks for bringing this up. And let's remember that Gray Davis was recalled. He was far from a bad governor of California.

3. Depends on the perspective
Sure, if you look at things over the long run, it appears that the action worked out well for Cleveland. However, you have to consider that in the short term, what Kucinich did was very, very hard on the people of Cleveland. They endured nearly a decade of contraction and recession as a result of the city going into default. So how should you look at it--over the long run or over the short run? Most would instinctively say that you should look at the long run. Trouble is, as John Maynard Keynes used to say, in the long run, we're all dead.

6. Keynes is dead...
And Dennis is still alive and kicking. The problem with your analysis is that you don't look at the whole of the rust belt that shivered and contracted during the period. It was our manufacturing base that got hit hardest first, and Cleveland was a steel town. Look at what happened to Pittsburgh, Gary, etc.

Dennis stood for his beliefs and the people of Cleveland. I believe he'll do the same as president for the people of this country.

Go Dennis!

10. Cleveland lost half its steel mills, the machine-tool business, fastener business
I don't recall if any auto plants were within the city limits, but Euclid, Parma, Avon, lost auto factories. White Motors went from preeminence in big trucks to nothing. In other words, what RJones said. Dennis did not cause the industrial collapse that was at its worst in the 1980s.

7. Do any of the other 7 have a record as long and deep as DK,
opposing corporate privatization?

This is one of the key areas in which his platform and record stand alone out in front of the rest.

9. K&R
I really don't see Clinton, Obama or Edwards, really bucking the Corporate powers. I am voting for DK in the primaries, will reluctantly vote for who wins if DK doesn't.
