Have any of our presidential candidates spoken out against Vicks? I have heard nothing.
And it is important to me how the candidates stand on animal rights.

1. I'd prefer they don't get involved in this
It's court issue and an NFL issue. It's not political. At least that's my opinion.

4. "Butchering and torturing of animals is NOT a political issue? This isn't

about "football" It is about inhumanity. Then by those standards abortion and the Iraq War aren't issues either! That is my opinion.

5. No, I don't think it is a political issue
It's a legal one. He's copped a plea to a felony. The court will punish him somehow.

Why would the candidates get involved in this as opposed to individual spousal abuse, child abuse, murder, or rape cases?

I'm not saying what he did wasn't heinous but I can't see why it's an issue for the campaign trail.

So is child abuse. This is animal rights.I remember Kerry spoke on that topic.I respected him for it!

11. Of course they're issues
This particular case, though, shouldn't be.

I understand how you feel. I just respectfully disagree with you.

7. As repugnant as it is, I agree totally.
I believe the law in this instance is well established. Let the law take its course.

13. I agree also
let the courts resolve it . . . the let the NFL weigh in.

What can a candidate say? They certainly would not support it. I cannot imagine anything of substance they could offer.

2. well, when they do, it will reflect whatever their polls tell them they should say.
And it might even agree at least in part with what they believe.

Though I would like to hear Kucinich talk about it, being vegan and such.

6. I think they have enough to worry about to start messing with this.
The public and the authorities (for once) are handling it.

8. I assume you're not talking about the cough drops?
Aren't there enough issues of serious national and global importance to be concerned with without having the candidates waste time on every petty local ordinance case? Or should they contact the humane societies of every city in the country and get lists of every one of the hundreds and hundreds of similar cases that NEVER make the newspaper and take a stand on those too?

Maybe they should all issue press releases taking a stand on Paris Hilton and Lindsey Lohan as well.

Their time should be focused on issues of true significance, not petty local city ordinance violations and traffic violations committed by the rich and famous. What's that I hear? Bruce Willis' backyard fence is one inch higher than city ordinance permits? Quick! Call every candidate to find how where they stand on that issue!

10. Are you daring to compare the stupidity of Paris Hilton to tortured animals?
This is NOT a petty local issue .

14. No, it's not a petty local issue
But do you think any serious candidate is in favor of drowning and electrocuting puppies? It's one of those "goes without saying" issues, like motherhood and apple pie. What's the point of speaking out about it? "I'd be tougher on dog-fighting, which is not a federal issue, but let's make it one, than my opponent"? And if a candidate was truly in favor of drowning and electrocuting puppies, I doubt that person would garner much popular support.

I'm far more interested in how a candidate proposes getting health care delivered to the uninsured and uninsurable. What are their priorities for federal budget spending? Do they favor treating criminal acts as acts of war, and making the same, stupid, blundering responses of the current administration?

15. Well, Rommney got a lot of negative attention about mistreating his dog. Maybe our candidates could
get positive attention for supporting animal rights!

16. Well animal rights then turns into whether you eat meat or not
So that's a slippery slope that no presidential candidate wants to get into. Suppose they say they are staunch supporters of animal rights, then they're caught on YouTube pigging out on a steak in Iowa? They'll look like total hypocrites.

17. Now that is a good point that hadn't occured to me. I eat meat and support "animal rights'
but it could be "spun" as hypocritical. Hmmm.

22. It's not a political issue.
It's a courtroom issue - guilt or innocence, and guilty of what charges.
