Time to come together and strategize: What chimp campaign outrages will |
|
we have to deal with and how? My top three:
1) The pseudo-recovery mantra: Chimp and his media whores will repeat the mantra that the economy is recovering which will create a rise in the stock market.
We have to point out that there's more than one kind of recovery--that the Chimp recovery (rise in corporate profits) is a recovery for people who don't need recovering--corporate executives, big stockholders, etc. We should contrast the chimp recovery with the Clinton recovery which not only created wealth but gave more Americans access to it by creating 22 million jobs and lifting millions out of poverty.
2) The thawing or "capture" of Osama, to occur immediately before the Dem convention.
First we've got to stop saying "where's Osama" since people don't need us to remind them that he's not caught and it'll make us look like dopes when he's produced. We also have to loudly point out that the Iraq fiasco proves that even if they catch him, they didn't destroy Al Queda. We have to do this now.
3) The Sept 11 Convention: They want to have a huge love fest/media infomercial, shamelessly fueled by the deaths of 3000 Americans, to create momentum that will take them to election day.
This is easy to defuse. Screaming about this should be a part of every stump speech and DNC talking point. Put them on the defensive now, so when the convention rolls around even the most gullible voter can watch the disgusting display with a clear headed view.

2. With the exception of Gephardt and Dean |
|
Edited on Tue Feb-17-04 09:53 AM by cyclezealot
I think the Democrats have handled themselves very well. An airing of issues and debate helps make way for the truth and unifying on a central position. Gephardt's treatment of Dean was pretty shabby..Gephardt got Dean embroiled in nastiness, costing him the nomination. Should my candidate Dennnis Kucinich be a spoiler, I would be disappointed. But he is one of the most positive campaigners,I can ever recall. Just stick to the issues and facts. Labor issues not resolved and Kucinich's moral stands not prevail, then many of us will be less than energized. That is his mission..Truthteller. Another point..Right now, the race for the Democratic nomination is getting press for the eventual nominee. No challengers, the media/camera go home for the big race. Now,we have 5 up there wacking away at Bush. As long as it remains positive you want the free press to go away..The eventual nominee has to show face in primary states even after the race is over, anyway.

3. Folks will be more apt to listen after the 2nd. :-) |
|
1) This one is easiest to defeat because the stories about lost jobs and spiralling deficits are out there, and Bush is rather obviously on the defensive concerning this issue. Talk about reckless tax cuts to rich people, and omnibus spending bills/medicare changes that are filled with graft and you are sitting pretty. Don't forget Halliburton!
2) Tough to counter, but focusing on Iraq as not only a distraction from the real enemy, but a disastrous failure of executive leadership and foreign policy will still be viable. This is why the economy has to be at the forefront of a successful campaign. We don't know if they will trot out Osama with freezer burn or not.
3) If they use it too politically, it will horribly backfire. A much more benign display like Wellstone's memorial sets the precedent--great way to slam someone for capitalizing on tragedy and death, and bring up stonewalling and refusal to testify, especially concerning the 9/11 families' questions that will in all likelihood go unanswered.

1) trying to smear the nominee (if Kerry it will be what they call his "wishy-washy" record on voting)
2) trying to keep the marriage amendment on the front burner, making the nominee look like a "liberal" without the same family values
3) continuing to discredit the nominee anyway they can
Just a few for starters...these are some that I get from my RW brother-in-law preacher.
