This entire administration has been based on pretending
They pretended they won both elections when in actuality they were both stolen for them.

They pretended they had a huge mandate when they had actually lost the popular vote.

They pretended Clinton staffers had trashed the White House when they had not.

They pretended Bush had carefully mulled over the issues surrounding stem cells when they knew from the start he'd pander to the religious nutcases.

They pretended global warming wasn't happening, when anyone with two brain cells to rub together realized it was and is happening.

They pretended Bush was a resolute leader on 9-11 instead of someone who sat on his ass and then flitted about the country on Airforce One.

They pretended Bush was a macho war leader when he played dress-up to land on the carrier when really he had been a deserter.

They pretended massive tax cuts for multi-millionaires would help the entire country instead of hurting the poor and middle class.

They pretended Bush would get to the bottom of the Plame leak, when in reality he and Cheney and their minions were behind it.

They pretended Saddam was behind 9-11, when really it was ... well ... let's just say it wasn't the Iraqis.

They pretended there were weapons of mass destruction when there were none.

They pretended the Iraq invasion was for our nation's defense, when really it was for Halliburton, Exxon, Carlisle, Blackwater, and other corporate cronies.

They pretended they were "Christians" while they spit upon the poor, the weak, and the sick.

They pretended they held "American" values when in reality they couldn't wait to shred sacred parts of the Constitution.

They pretended they were the patriots, when in reality they were the evildoers.

...And the traditional corporate media played right along in this dreadful, dreadful game of pretend.

4. But all their pretending has become reality.
there was a quote some neocon from a few years back about creating reality, and we're just here to watch. It seemed really spooky at the time. Now we see how they were truly successful in creating an alternate reality, and I have to concede that there is tremendous power in doing so. If only these masters of Dark Arts had a vision that wasn't self-serving and destructive, we could actually see some good done in the world with the same philosophy.

7. Good point.
It was astonishing to me how easily they were able to fake everything. All it took was a compliant media and a catapulted propaganda based on fear and base appeals to "patriotism."

Yes ... How can we harness the power for Good? ... Hmmm ...
