Clinton tops poll in Iowa for first time
Sen. Hillary Clinton has climbed to the top of the Democratic lineup in Iowa in a NewsMax/Zogby poll for the first time.

Former Sen. John Edwards, the 2004 vice presidential nominee, has been on top in most Iowa polls of Democrats this year.

But the poll made public Tuesday shows Clinton is supported by 30 percent of Iowa Democrats likely to attend their precinct caucuses next January. Edwards receives 23 percent support, and Sen. Barack Obama received 19 percent support in the telephone poll taken last weekend by NewsMax/Zogby, a national opinion research company.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, who had just 1 percent support in January, is now firmly in fourth place with 10 percent, the new poll shows.

Sen. Joe Biden follows with 3 percent. Sen. Christopher Dodd, Rep. Dennis Kucinich and former Sen. Mike Gravel each get 1 percent. Thirteen percent of those polled remain undecided.

It is completely dependent on the sampling method.

2. First time in a Zogby poll
From the article:

Clinton has led in two polls in Iowa. She has benefited from an aggressive campaign push in the state since May and has campaigned alone and with her husband, the former president. Tuesday's poll is the first time she has led in a Zogby poll.

4. Oh, ok, but that is different.
One other question. Were all the other polls done jointly with NewsMax as well?

6. Here's more info from the Zogby page
http://www.zogby.com/news/ReadNews.dbm?ID=1350

On that page they list 4 Iowa polls with Edwards leading the previous three (from Jan, March, and May) and Hillary leading in this one.

It is unclear what role Newsmax had in the past polls or has in this one. The methodology for this most recent poll is described here: http://www.zogby.com/methodology/readmeth.dbm?ID=1208

9. ok, so they "may" have changed their methodology in this poll.
I would like to find out, because that would certainly put this poll in a little more context.

5. So it will probably be between Clinton and Guliani. What a sad choice indeed
Yes, I will vote for HRC or whoever our nominee is, but since our leading candidates have already indicated that our presence in Iraq would be required for some time now, there is less wiggle room to distinguish us on Iraq

That leaves us with healthcare and the supreme court

I can live with that, but am still unhappy about the position on the illegal war

He can't let Hillary or Obama win that one or he is toast. Expect him to start pulling out all the stops soon and really go on the offensive. He has no choice.

42. Or he'll skip Iowa or promote other states to move ahead of Iowa...
http://customwire.ap.org/dynamic/stories/P/PRIMARY_SCRAMBLE?SITE=IADES&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT

<snip>

Supporters of presidential candidate John Edwards are pressing for a Democratic caucus instead of a primary in Michigan. Edwards has strong support among organized labor, whose influence might be magnified in a caucus where the ability to turn out voters willing to attend party meetings is critical.

Edwards said Wednesday in an AP interview in Nevada that "I'm going to campaign in the states that are participating in the process. ... My job is not to make the rules, my job is to run."

I was just gonna post that. A new poll comes out in Iowa almost daily, and a different person leads each time. Why do people go gaga over ONE poll that shows their candidate ahead for a 24-hour news cycle?

12. Since Edwards, like Obama, is running on being the candidate of "change"
it seems to follow that most of Edwards' supporters will move to Obama once Edwards runs out of money. Let's see what the polls look like then. :D

and it's just one poll in a multitude of polls that come from many different organizations. But by putting them together you'll see that Iowa is still very fluid. No one candidate has Iowa locked up. (That includes any of the three anointed by the MSM.)
