another pickup for the Dems in the Senate
it looks like Hagel is not going to run again and it looks like Bob Kerrey will run for his seat.

Kerrey Readies Possible Senate Bid

Former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D-NE) "stepped to the brink of a possible 2008 Senate bid," the Lincoln Journal-Star reports.

"Kerrey placed a conference call to New School University trustees in New York City to inform them he may be returning to Nebraska. Kerrey said he has become convinced Sen. Chuck Hagel will not be a candidate for a third term next year."

Said Kerry: "I am more and more certain Chuck is not going to seek re-election, and my intention is to make my decision before he makes an announcement."

Hagel is expected to reveal his decision next month.

1. ..
If Hagel does run, it looks like Kerrey will endorse him. Unless Mr. Hagel seeks another term. "If Hagel runs, not only would I not run, I would write him a check," Mr. Kerrey said.

Also good to know that if Kerrey wins, we'll have another "Lieberman Democrat" in the Senate who prefers 3rd Party candidates over Democrats.

2. Yeah... Kerrey's hardly an ideal Senator
But then, he's probably the best you could expect to get into office out of Nebraska.

3. I understand Kerrey and Hagel are old buddies and fellow vets, but I think it's
bad form for a Dem to endorse a 'Pub, especially in a high-profile Senate race. I have severe doubts about Kerrey, especially in regard to his stand on the war. But, I guess we're desperate out here. Beggars can't be choosers.

5. LOL! Here in Nebraska, finding an electable Dem who can beat
the 'Pub is usually an act of scrounging, compromise, and desperation. Hence, Ben Nelson.
