10 of 14 senators Obama's PAC supported were DLC members (half of the DLC in the senate)?
Say it ain't so! I came across this when searching about Holy Joe being chosen by Obama to be his mentor in response to a question about it by a DUer.

==Hence Vietor's sensitivity to the allusion in my column to Obama's "mentor" being Senator Joe Lieberman. As a freshman senator, Vietor insisted, Obama had been assigned Lieberman as mentor. Read the Hartford Courant and you'll find Lieberman boasting that Obama picked him.

Either way, it's obvious that Obama could have brokered a different mentor if he'd so desired, the same way he could have declined to go and tout for Lieberman at that Democratic Party dinner in Connecticut at the end of March. But he clearly didn't, because he wanted to send out a reassuring signal, in the same way he's doing with his PAC, the Hopefund, which is raising money for fourteen of his senate colleagues. According to BlackCommentator, ten of them are DLC--half the DLC presence in the Senate.

There has been a more substantive signal, keenly savored by the corporate world, where Obama voted for one of its most cherished pieces of legislation, sought for years, namely "tort reform." ==

2. How much did Hopefund give Ned Lamont (D-Ct)?
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 01:26 AM by draft_mario_cuomo
It gave $4,200 to Holy Joe plus Obama the rock star headlined a fund-raiser for Holy Joe, in addition to campaigning for him against Lamont on at least one other occasion in the primary (while Obama officially claimed to support Lamont in the GE he never made the trip to CT to campaign for him, although he traveled across the country campaigning for Democrats. He also allegedly is the one who led the standing ovation for Holy Joe when he returned to the Senate). :eyes:

5. I thought Obama was the antithesis of the DLC?
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 01:35 AM by draft_mario_cuomo
There were countless non-DLC candidates for the House he could have spent the money he gave to the likes of Holy Joe, DLC leaders Tom Carper, Harold Ford, and Hillary Clinton. The question apparently is not whether he backed the DLC but if there was any key DLCer he did not support.

7. I know he donated to Lieberman, Harold Ford, Tom Carper, and Hillary Clinton
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 01:56 AM by draft_mario_cuomo
Three are formal DLC leaders and the other is perhaps more associated with the DLC than anyone not named Clinton.

If the article in the OP is false, please let us know. Who did he support in 2006? Let's see the list and then we can determine how many were DLC.

Let's not forget that at the time he was considered a likely candidate for VP in 2008. Having the DLC in your camp surely would help your cause, especially since the DLC's top candidate finished 3rd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st in the 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000, and 2004 primaries.

13. Here's what's at the link:
I was harsh about Senator Barack Obama of Illinois here a couple of weeks ago, and the very next morning his press aide, Tommy Vietor, was on the phone howling about inaccuracies. It was an illuminating conversation.

Obama's man took grave exception to my use of the phrase "distancing himself" to describe what his boss had done when Illinois's senior senator, Dick Durbin, got into trouble for likening conditions at Guantánamo to those in a Nazi or Stalin-era camp. This was one of Durbin's finer moments, and he duly paid the penalty by having to eat crow on the Senate floor.

Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 12:51 PM by draft_mario_cuomo
We also know Harold Ford is DLC (a DLC leader like Tom Carper and Hillary Clinton). Candidates supported by Obama are in bold.

* Sen. Max Baucus of Montana
* Sen. Evan Bayh of Indiana
* Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware
* Sen. Thomas R. Carper of Delaware

* Sen. Kent Conrad of North Dakota
* Sen. Byron Dorgan of North Dakota
* Sen. Dianne Feinstein of California
* Sen. Tim Johnson of South Dakota

* Sen. Herb Kohl of Wisconsin
* Sen. Mary Landrieu of Louisiana
* Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut

* Sen. Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas
* Sen. Bill Nelson of Florida
* Sen. Ben Nelson of Nebraska

* Sen. Mark Pryor of Arkansas
* Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton of New York

* Sen. Ken Salazar of Colorado
* Sen. Debbie Stabenow of Michigan

Add to that losing candidate Harold Ford, now the DLC's chairman. How many of the other losers were DLC?
