The Atlantic's Marc Ambinder on Hillary Clinton: A Nod in Karl Rove's Direction
A Nod In Karl Rove's Direction

24 Aug 2007 09:57 am

It would be interesting to know precisely why Sen. Clinton believes a new terrorist attack would help Republicans. Does she endorse the "Morality Salience" theory?

"It's a horrible prospect to ask yourself, 'What if? What if?' But if certain things happen between now and the election, particularly with respect to terrorism, that will automatically give the Republicans an advantage again, no matter how badly they have mishandled it, no matter how much more dangerous they have made the world," Clinton told supporters in Concord.

"So I think I'm the best of the Democrats to deal with that," she added.

2. If the terrorist attack us again before 2008 it definitely will help
the Republicans. It will prove what they have been saying all along that we are in great danger. It of course will also show that our defense against Terrorist is very week. The Republicans will blame this on the Democrats.

3. I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that another
terrorist attack would help the Republicans. They used the fear card quite well in the last election; you can bet they, along with the lapdog MSM, would employ it to their advantage again. I don't see that as Karl Rove's POV on this... One of my greatest worries is that Bush and company will cook up an incident or two right before the next election.

As for Hillary's response - what's a candidate supposed to say? "I'm the worst for this job"?

4. Why does Hillary think she is the best
to handle a terrorist problem? She would start a "new war"? :nuke:

She is most like the Republicans? I don't understand the logic.
