Anyone Have Tom Davis (R) Virginia As A Rep.? What Do You Think Of Him?
I just watched him on C-Span with a group of people called No Iraq Escalation and he surprised me! I've seen him at quite a few hearings, but didn't realize how he felt about the escalation and he actually made some real sense!

I was very interested and didn't know that he felt this way. But then it was just one program and I don't much about him.

Would like some comments from his constituents...

Thank you

1. Watched that also, but don't be fooled.
I've watched him at some our oversight hearings and he is just another bushbot. Must be up for re-election -- jus' sayin'.

2. He's the official "moderate Republican."
He is genuinely not as far to the right as most of the GOP caucus, but he's extremely partisan and should not be trusted whatsoever.

5. OOOHHH-Kay, I've Seen Him At Hearings Also & Wasn't Happy
with him either, so that's why I was so surprised. Guess he IS up for re-election. His last comment as the meeting came to a close with a question from a disgruntled member in the audience should have tipped me off.

He said he didn't make the rules of the meeting! Kind of a back-sliding type of comment. I thought maybe Virginia was getting more Blue! Issa is a piece of crap FOR SURE!

6. He's my rep and I know him personally
going back to his days on the county council. He used to draw a lot of support from folks who normally voted Democratic, largely because he provides very good constituent services and because of his reputation as a moderate. However, once he became part of the repub leadership, he started losing support. His actions during the Terry Schiavo thing and his support for the war has caused a number of former supporters to give up on him. Re-destricting has helped him, but even so, he had to work harder than he ever has to win reelection against a virtual unknown, political novice in 2006. Personally, he's a decent guy, but he's made his bed and now he's finding a bit lumpy to sleep in.

As for his position on the war, I find it somewhat incomprehensible. He touts the fact that he opposed the surge, presumably as a way of trying to win back some support from those who oppose the war. But he also opposed setting a timetable, which leaves him in the position of supporting doing nothing to change the situation in either direction. Which is ridiculous.

He has ambitions to succeed Warner as senator (with his wife taking his spot in COngress), and he's as knowledgable about voting patterns, etc. as anyone, but he's going to have a tough time figuring out how to garner support from the convservative parts of the state without completely alienating his northern virginia base. I can see him trying to paint himself as having the same positions as Jim Webb, but he's going to have to speak out more forcefully against the war to make that stick.

7. Thanks For All The Info... Now I See What Is Probably Going On...
I suppose it doesn't really surprise me, but it DID surprise me to see him at the meeting. As I said I HAVE seen him at various meetings and was miffed at him from time to time. Just was wondering how those in Virginia felt AND why he was speaking out like he was.

Just more politics at work, and doing what they do to "get" further ahead I suppose. Not that it shocks me.
