Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 12:34 PM by draft_mario_cuomo
Gallup reviewed name ID a couple of months ago. Edwards was at 81% then and Obama at 75%. So oddly Obama is falling in the polls as he becomes better known while Edwards, unfortunately but we can't deny reality because it is unpleasant, has thus far remained static despite a modest increase in name ID (+4 for Edwards, +9 for Obama). Romney has enjoyed a substantial boost in name ID as well, although that does not seem to be helping his national number yet. Maybe Dick Morris was right for once and Romney's religion is limiting how far his support can grow?

==Name Recognition

Gallup reports that 77% of Democrats recently surveyed were familiar with all three frontrunners for the 2008 presidential nomination. The findings: 94% are familiar enough with Clinton to rate her, 85% with Edwards and 84% with Obama. This could be good news for Clinton, who has managed to keep her wide national lead despite other candidates becoming better known.

For Republicans a different pattern emerges. Among the four frontrunners only two -- Giuliani and McCain -- have high name recognition at 91% and 87% respectively, while Romney has 64% recognition and undeclared Thompson has 56% recognition. Only 46% of republicans know all four candidates well enough to rate them. This disparity leaves room for significant fluctuation in the leaderboard.==

However, Clinton does best with the least informed voters.

4. She does best with least informed voters because all she has on them is name recognition.
That's it. If they were informed, it might be a different story. Lack of information can kill a democracy.

Unequal air time is a big issue.

34. It is a legitimate question to ask if supporters of a candidate know the candidate's positions
Edited on Fri Aug-24-07 02:45 PM by antigop
But for some reason people get upset if you ask that question.

Hmmm...I wonder why?

36. True, but it isn't HRC's positions who voters seem to be least informed about
Even many political junkies at DU apparently know little about a certain candidate's platform. To be fair, this is partly because he is minimizing the issues and focusing on personality.
