I guess I'll vote straight party republican or not vote at all |
|
I live in a red southern state and from what I read at DU, the democratic party either doesn't want us or doesn't need us. I've always been an advocate of team work but I guess I'm not wanted. I'll see if I can spread that word in Mississippi, maybe instead of a 54-46 split we can give Mississippi to the gop with a 90% vote. What a plan.

The attitude you refer to sucks. It's easy to be a Dem in a liberal area of the country. We need to support and honor our good people in the South.
Howard Dean isn't ready to abandon you, and neither is this Oaklander.

I haven't voted for a republican since Gerald Ford in 76 and I'm not going to start now, but I think it is a mistake of any political party to abandon or ignore any segment of voters. I do not anticipate nor ask for a swing through Mississippi by every Dem candidate but don't write us off 15 months before the election. And, if the dems want to write us off, stop asking us for money.

and winning Chip Pickering's House seat.
Someday Thad Cochran and Trent Lott's Senate seats will open up, and we need to position good candidates.
I will admit to not being optimistic about winning Mississippi's electoral votes in 2008, but that could happen in a future election if Democrats can build a strong party in the state.

I will vote for Eaves but he is just a nanohair to the left of james dobson. However we'll need that appeal to put a whole bunch of dems in the state house. barbore will be tough to beat.

With a little national financial help last year we could have put Don Young out of business, but the DCCC didn't think we were worth the effort.

applaud. We need dems in the South to rise again. It can happen. I am hopeful that in November we can put a Democrat back in the governor's chair in Kentucky. Also for the first time in many years, we almost got rid of Bunning in 06 and we have at least an inkling of chance of displacing McConnell. He is wearing thin here. John Yarmuth did beat Northrup in 06 in Louisville rep race. Hallelujah!!!!! Hang in there; the world of politics in the USA is swinging back to sanity. Oh, and did I say I love Mississippi? I vacationed in Natchez at a most charming bed and breakfast two summers ago.

What's the scoop? Suddenly you've become an idiot? How the hell did that happen?
Bigots and other imbeciles will constantly slag your part of the world just as they will others, but that doesn't mean you're neglected. There are many of us who repeatedly post things to the effect that it takes much more clearheadedness and courage to think and be cosmopolitan in your redneck of the woods than it does in more lefty climes. Someone who can be a decent and inclusive sort out there is much more a testament to character than it is to go with the flow in some bright blue coastal city.
Shitheadedness is a cross-cultural and equal-opportunity affliction; just because sanctimonious lefty twits dismiss vast regions and their inhabitants shouldn't ruin your day.
Hell, next thing you'll be doing is draping the back of your hand over your flung-back forehead and spewing forth some "goodbye-cruel-DU" posting. Knock it off and get back to what you do best: reminding us that we're not alone and that the rest of the world is beyond hope. Just knowing that you're out there to talk some sense to the senseless brings some of us great cheer.
Dammit.
Some of us bluebellies have spent some serious time in the south, by the way, and one of the comforting truths is that there are plenty of sensible sorts and some downright nice bluish enclaves there. There are plenty of blockheads who don't know that, and soooooo what?
Sheesh.
The problem with lefties, liberals, mealy-mouthed progressives and other non-reactionaries is that they have the unfortunate malady of being humans. Therein lies the problem.

most of today. I take it the South is getting hit with nasty posts. I don't even want to go look for them I hate those kinds of posts. We have been through it many times as Kansans so I do understand how hard it is to take. Dammit! It is difficult enough to be a liberal in conservative states without other liberals bashing away on us to relieve their frustration or to boost their own, already too high, egos. They have it easy, guess they have to do something.

you should not take things personally or get your feelings hurt over some regional snipes. I am southern but often criticize the region's politics. But, hey...Montana, Utah, Idaho..Wyoming...people piss me off from other regions, as well. It is just part of it.
