Longtime Doolittle (R) ally pulls support-suck it rw nuts.
heads up district 4 and all that know John Doolittle.

By David Whitney - Bee Washington Bureau
Published 10:48 am PDT Friday, August 24, 2007

Former Placer County Republican Party chairman Ken Campbell, a longtime financial backer of Rep. John Doolittle, said Friday that he is withdrawing his support of the nine-term Roseville Republican because he has betrayed his conservative roots.

Campbell based his conclusion on a recent Club for Growth report on votes this year on 2008 spending bills to eliminate "wasteful pork projects." Doolittle scored just 2 percent, the average score for Democrats and well under the Republican average of 43 percent.

Campbell has been a longtime supporter of Doolittle, with about $10,000 in political contributions to his reelection in the last decade. The most recent contribution was $400 in May.

But in what could be a huge blow for Doolittle, Campbell said the Club for Growth report shatters his chance for reelection next year, even if he can overcome all of the questions surrounding the federal investigation into his relationship with convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

"I think when this conservative district sees how John spends their money, I think John doesn't have a chance," Campbell said.

1. I wonder where David Whitney works.
You know, is it a federal job, or is it a state/municipal job that gets federal grants? Or, does he have to drive over any bridges funded by federal dollars to get to where ever he's going?

2. And Charlie Brown is in the race!
I just received this email from Do-Little's opponent last time around. Charlie Brown almost beat Do-little in this very red district.

For the past two years, we've worked hard to create change in the 4th district and across the country. And from the grassroots to the netroots, and all points inbetween, our growing momentum is undeniable. But make no mistake about it, our mission is far from complete.

As you know, Jan and I promised to be in this battle for the long haul, and we keep our promises. So on September 7th, I'm making my intentions for 2008 "official," and taking the next step towards a brighter future for all of us.

Grassroots Democracy is about everyone being involved, so this year's "Take Off" event will be an old fashioned political barnstorming tour throughout the Fourth District. If you can, please show your support and join us at any one of our four campaign announcement celebrations in El Dorado, Placer, Nevada, and Plumas Counties.

5. I want Doolittle to be the 2008 GOP nominee.
That's really just about the only way the district could be lost to the Republicans. Otherwise, 42% would be an extremely good showing for a Democrat against a fresh Republican face. The district is extremely right-wing in composition, a putrid mixture of racist hill-dwelling hicks, suburban NIMBYers and nouveau riches.

8. I'm sorry. It's just frustrating. I live there too!
I've seen the place slide so far to the right. And I've talked to so many politically backward people in Placer and El Dorado counties, that it just pisses me off. Not everyone is like that. But an awful lot of them are very politically backward and bigoted. Just my impression as a gay person and a left-winger.

9. Yes I know. I overgeneralized.
It's just very difficult territory. A lot of those people drive me crazy. I've lived in the area since birth and, well, I guess I'm a little bitter!

12. ok i understand but hey Brown may actually win this time and i do agree it would be

10. Doolittle must be an underperforming asset.
Republican businessmen expect a decent ROI from their Republican politicians.
