Clinton: Terrorist attack would help GOP |
|
"But, if certain things happen between now and the election, particularly with respect to terrorism, that will automatically give the Republicans an advantage again, no matter how badly they have mishandled it, no matter how much more dangerous they have made the world." http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/08/24/clinton.terrorism/index.html:puke:

5. To me, her comments are an acknowledgement that |
|
the GOP keeps playing to America's fears. The GOP has advanced this ridiculous notion that they are the only ones who can keep us safe. And unfortunately, too many Americans have brought into that.
I believe that's what Hillary was acknowledging in her commments.

She's damned well supposed to have an answer to that question, not cower in fear and concede that Democrats automatically lose that argument. That's like Bill Belichek telling the Pats, "Boys, if the SeaHawks run Alexander off tackle all afternoon, I just don't know how we'll deal with it." The fans would have his head on a plate. This lady wants to be President. She cannot simply hand the central argument to the Republicans.

A real terror attack would point up how useless the gopigs are...thus the pigmedia simply would not report anything that truly enrage too many bush supporters, or play it down in that way they've perfected...why ms clinton wants to help them out (since no terror attack gonna happen, and since the media no report it anyway-remember flight 587? it blew up after taking off from a ny airport in mid nov/01 a couple months after 911. the media IMMEDIATELY declared it an mere accident, which dominated news the same morning the NORC results were published. it was win win for the gopigs. they got to ignore the NORC results, but w/out further damage to airline industry or furthering the sense the bush regime wasn't in control, while still scaring alot of people) by suggesting they win even if a terror attack a)happened, and was reported on news real time or b) never happened, in the news, though thousands died in fact, or c) never happened in fact or d) happened, but was ignored by the news...

16. You make my point for me |
|
That is the way Democrats must frame the argument. Hilary premptively concedes the framing to the GOP and the MSM. For 8 years George Washington rode over one battlefield after another, on a tall white horse. If he had dived into a shell hole every time a gun went off, we would still be singing God Save the Queen. If the thought of Republicon rhetoric gives Hilary the willies, she needs to find another line of work.

17. The worst public statement of the primary season. |
|
Hillary has run a very disciplined, very smart "establishment frontrunner" campaign, so this is very surprising, but this has to be the most ill-advised public statement I've heard come from any candidate during this primary season. I see two major problems with it:
1) It reeks of rank cynicism. It looks terrible for a candidate to be thinking of the domestic political consequences of a national tragedy like a major terrorism attack. I'm not naive - obviously, professional politicians always think about the politics, but it sure as hell isn't something you say out loud in broad daylight.
2) It's not a good idea to publicly cede your opponents an advantage on anything - much less, the central issue of the day. Hillary's comments are true - the Republicans DO have a perception advantage on national security, but I don't think it's wise for our extremely likely standard bearer to reinforce the meme by repeating it publicly.

Huge gaffe by Hillary, Obama's been picking momentum since last Sunday (and leading in the foreign experience debate) and Edwards is swinging for the KO as his numbers keep dropping.
Things are getting interesting.

19. Reminds me of George Romney's "brainwashed" remark |
|
In 1967 Romney reversed his position from pro to anti on the Vietnam war, saying he had been brainwashed by the military. It did him in.

20. I agree with your points |
|
You point out a perfect example of defensive /reactionary framing. It is pretty hard to look tough while cowering. Also, I think she's actually wrong... I'm not sure how much public support would rebound for Republicans and Bush in the aftermath of another domestic terror attack.
