Edwards' Response To Senator Clinton's Troubling Comments
Chapel Hill, North Carolina – Earlier today in New Hampshire, Senator John Edwards made the following comments when asked about Senator Hillary Clinton's comments yesterday that Republicans would have an advantage if there is another terrorist attack and that she is the best Democrat to deal with that.

"If we're talking about America being attacked the last thing we should do is be engaged in political calculation. What I would do is focus on uniting America and doing the things I need to do as president of the United States to keep this country safe."

In response to another question, Edwards said:

"Well first of all, I strongly disagree with what said. has said she believes that we are safer under George Bush, I strongly disagree with that. What I believe is that it is the responsibility of a presidential candidate, a serious presidential candidate, and the president of the United States when you're talking about something as serious as the potential for America to be attacked, to focus on what's good for America, not politics, and what needs to be done to keep this country safe, which is what I would do as president."

1. Goodness - he is just really making me tired.
John, please find your inner core. Don't speak unless you actually have something to say.

4. Don't be prey to the media spin on John Edwards "desperateness", or his "shrillness"
Why is the media painting Edward's positions/remarks as desperate and shrill? Could it be to demean, belittle, frame the destruction of a viable Presidential candidate--perhaps in the manner of what was done to Howard Dean? Hillary dropped her guard it seems and if she gets punched soundly for it by, then she suffers, rightly so.

I do not want the media to help me select a candidate, the media should just report OBJECTIVELY, and fuck this 'fair and balanced' bullshit.

5. Three reasons
1. He is a non-factor in this campaign so far. He needs to generate some headlines for his campaign.

2. The 'gaffe' was made by the front-runner, an obvious target of everyone in the race. Had it been made by Ron Paul, Edwards probably would not have commented.

3. The comment Edwards made was absolutely without meaning. And Hillary Clinton was right about what she said. And we all know it.

7. HRC's comment was just stupid. It makes her, as a Democratic candidate
appear weak, and at best reactionary. The Dem field doesn't need to go this direction.

She set herself up for the shots she is taking; I would not defend anyone doing so, but it's a shitty scrimmage they're playing.

The greatest grief is the media. HRC and Obama are deemed the pack leaders while the rest are disenfranchised; this is wrong, especially if you enjoy a candidate with frontrunner status.

11. What she said was true.
Why do you think we had all those phony terra alerts? Because Republicans know they get a boost whenever the subject turns to terra.

Nothing new there.

8. Sorry but John has brought this on himself.
Or perhaps we have Joe Trippi to blame. At any rate, John keeps putting out reactive press releases when he has nothing to say.

I can not imagine that Joe is going to last through the primary. As you will remember - Joe was Dean's campaign manager/whatever.

6. If there is a major terrorist attack before the election, we lose unless our nominee is a general.
Sorry, but the perception of Dems being weak on national security has not gone completely away (although it has abated somewhat). The Repubicans know how to exploit that perception and have proven it is still a viable campaign strategy.
