Lawyer Indicted For Illegal Donations to Edwards Campaign
DETROIT — Attorney Geoffrey Fieger, best known for representing assisted suicide advocate Jack Kevorkian, was indicted on charges of conspiring to make more than $125,000 in illegal contributions to the 2004 presidential campaign of former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards.

The 10-count indictment was returned Tuesday and unsealed Friday. It names both Fieger and Vernon Johnson, a partner in Fieger's law firm.

Fieger, in a statement issued Friday afternoon, denied the charges, blaming President Bush's administration, including a Justice Department led by Attorney General Alberto Gonzales that Fieger says is politically motivated.

2. Huh, Michigan
There have been a couple of these cases involving Edwards fundraising with lawyers already. One I remember in Arkansas and another I think was Mississippi.

3. Isn't this what Bush Rangers & Pioneers do?
Color me confused on what's legal and what's not.

Seems to me that if a Repuke does it, it's legal.

5. The indictment is yesterday, so it is current news
You know these FEC investigations into elections take years and sometimes mean something and very often don't, but you have to expect media coverage.

9. Yes, funny timing for the indictment ? and UPDATE
That's what I meant. I'm sure there's more pressing issues the FEC can be looking at from 2000, 2004 ? Like Republicans :D

6. Is This An Attempt To Also Discredit Edwards?........
From what I've seen of late - I'm beginning to believe the talk that the Repugs fear Edwards more than any other Dem candidate.

7. The Feds raided Feiger's office in 2005 — so no, it doesn't seem like this was timed
to discredit Edwards.

8. Edwards is specifically absolved
A statement from the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Public Affairs absolved the Edwards campaign of any wrongdoing and said his campaign was unaware of the alleged illegal contributions and has fully cooperated with the investigation. Edwards is running for the 2008 Democratic nomination.

10. 2004? Fox news tonight Edwards takes dirty money from Trail Lawyers.
This thing does not pass the smell test what so ever.

Fucking bush's lawyers flew in Enron jets to stop the count in Florida in 2000 ..
Tom Noe in 2004 took state money and gave it to bush/Cheney 04 in Ohio.

Where is the justice dept on those acts?

" .... charges of conspiring to make more than $125,000 in illegal contributions to the 2004 presidential
campaign of former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards."

"The U.S. attorney's office in Detroit said campaign officials for Edwards, then a Democratic U.S. senator,
weren't aware of the alleged actions and that Edwards and his campaign staff cooperated fully with the
investigation."

11. Edwards isn't a very good lawyer - something like this could have finally caught up with him.
:sarcasm:

Do you REALLY think that Edwards would not be crossing every t and dotting every i in the campaign stuff?

This only says one thing to me: Edwards is the one "they're" most afraid of...
