Giuliani Rips Democrats on Taxes
Mocks Hillary Clinton Quote, Claims Democrats Would Hurt the Economy
By JAKE TAPPER
Aug. 25, 2007

Avoiding any mention of his GOP rivals, Giuliani instead mocked Democratic frontrunner Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., and argued any nominee from her party would hurt the economy.

"The Republican Party is the party of the people," Giuliani said. "The Democratic Party is the party of the government."

Giuliani made the remarks at a town-hall meeting where he unveiled another one of his "12 commitments" to voters (LINK), this one being, "I will cut taxes and reform the tax code."

Giuliani was joined by flat-tax proponent and former presidential candidate Steve Forbes and former Gov. Paul Cellucci of Massachusetts.

The former mayor, who leads his GOP rivals in national polls, said he would make President Bush's tax cuts permanent, would make the child tax credit permanent, link the alternative minimum tax to inflation, and push to repeal the estate tax -- or, as Giuliani put it, "give the death tax the death penalty."

3. I know there are some Pubs out there who think they shouldn't pay
ANY taxes, but don't you think that the majority of Americans NOW ralize that many of the things THEY wantsimply can't happen because Shrub cut the taxes TOO MUCH?

As to the damn estate tax, for God SAKE! There are only a FEW people who would even fall into having to pay that!

14. What's not true? Thw estate taxes? Remember when they talk about estate taxes,
they are talking about FEDERAL not State. Fed. Estate Tax doesn't apply to any inheritance less that $2 million.

Increased Estate Tax Applicable Exclusion Amount
An estate tax return for a U.S. citizen or resident needs to be filed only if the gross estate exceeds the applicable exclusion amount, listed below.

Applicable Exclusion Amounts
Year Exclusion Amount

2006, 2007, and 2008 $2,000,000

2009 $3,500,000

http://www.irs.gov/formspubs/article/0,,id=112782,00.html

I can't cry very hard for someone who gets $2 mollion + givent to them, and they think it should be free!

20. I got under $40,000.
I was taxed $8,000. (They tried to tax me that amount; my tax accountant helped me to get it nearer to $6,000.)

This is income tax. Some people, like me, think that if my little old lady mother saved this money to give to her kid upon her death, we shouldn't be taxed for it.

I'm aware that this is not traditional Dem thinking, but it's an area that I think all Dems should look at.

23. Had to be your state
You would not pay a federal estate tax on $40,000 unless her estate was worth much more than that and the bulk of the money went elsewhere. State estate taxes are different.

25. It wasn't "the estate tax," and I think that's why people get
confused. The confusion provides a way for politicians to manipulate public perception--"estate tax" vs. "income tax" vs. "death tax" etc.

The "estate tax" is the tax that is levied on people with huge incomes from their dead relatives. The percentage rate is high.

But the feds--make no mistake--charge income tax on dead grannie's or mom's or dad's gifts, regardless of the amount, and that's the part I have trouble with.

A good friend of mine, and a lifelong Dem, expressed dismay that I should balk at this, but I simply disagree.

Again, I'm aware that this problem is used heavily for political purposes, but I cannot understand or agree with the extent of this form of taxation.

27. Only if it hadn't been taxed
If it was an IRA, and had never been taxed, then yes, it's going to get taxed just like it would if it were distributed as income. The IRA owner would have had to pay tax, why shouldn't the beneficiary.

Further, why shouldn't you have to pay tax on unearned income. It's the least you could do for a big pile of money you didn't do a thing to deserve.

5. Giuliani is continuing with the divisive shit. It will bite him in the ass.
I guess he's trying to make the GOP forget all of his previous, liberal positions. I know he's certainly made me forget that I ever held a glimmer of positive feelings about him.

At one time I thought Giuliani was one GOP candidate who could actually win in November. No longer.

8. This GOP Tactics `101--Yes they try to make Government
bad. Some think-tanker say "Government schools" instead
of public schools to make schools sound really really bad.

Up until now Dems have just withered and ran with their
tail tucked between the legs.

Someday, a brave Dem will stand up and give as good as they
send. Yes, I believe in Government. How many of you like
your SS check each month? How many families are glad Grandma
has some help from Medicare each month? How many of you
appreciate the Highways and Streets you drive on? How many
of you appreciate the fact we have vaccines to prevent serious
illness? Folks, this is government and I am proud to be
a Democrat.

Now my opposition here, does not believe in government. If
one does not believe in something, think about this my fellow
Americans. How can they expect to run it. You put the GOP
in charge of the entire government --Remember Katrina, the
War, the Budget????? How can you expect them to run the Government
if they do not believe in it????????

In other words, embrace the accusation and "kill them with it".

The GOP is the party of subjugating and killing PEOPLE (24/7 War Party) the World over. Dems are the Party that understand the need for GOVERNMENT to get things done, Government that is sensible not the Big Brother Bush type.
