Mainstream News "Swiftboating" Peace
During the campaign of '04 John Kerry was ravaged by a tiny group of Vets that produced a commercial that attacked Kerry's time spent in uniform. While scurrilous attacks are nothing new in politics, what is new is the amplification of the attacks by the mainstream news. The Swiftboaters spent a tiny amount of money to produce their commercial. The mainstream news gave it MILLIONS of dollars in free air time by reporting on the ad AS NEWS. We are seeing the same thing today with another tiny group that has produced a series of commercials that show soldiers advocating staying in Iraq "until the job is done". The ad I just saw being run on ABC with Terry Moran shows a legless soldier imploring Americans to stay the course in Iraq. The ad also shamelessly uses footage of 9/11 and the burning WTC to convey it's message of support for Bush's nightmare.

The real story here is that the mainstream media is going to play this commercial over and over and over again FOR FREE under the guise of "news" coverage.

If you want to see the quid pro quo between big media and big industry, look no further than the Sunday News programs. Big ad dollars for favorable coverage.

1. That's what we get for allowing defense contractors (GE for one) to own media outlets (NBC)
And for allowing foreign nationals (Rev. Moon and Ruppert Murdoch) to own media outlets and manipulate public opinion.

And for dissolving the Fairness Doctrine.

3. Yeah I agree the MSM is basically worthless
take the up coming so call Patraes report. Now why would the MSM put so much stock in this report when they should be presenting their own reports, I mean News organizations have people on the ground in Iraq, they don't need to rely Petraes and the whitehouse for the facts. It's all about theater for them, the truth and facts be damn, they're building up the story hoping to get big ratings that day.
