Poll question: Who would be the best VP choice for John Edwards?
I didn't forget about John.

1. Plenty of good choices for an Edwards ticket, IMO.

In no particular order, and for more than one reason:

Kathleen Sebelius

Brian Schweitzer

Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Chris Van Hollen

Tom Harkin

Gary Hart

--just to start the ball rolling.

4. Gary Hart would be very good, but I doubt very much if he'd be
the slightest bit interested!

6. Don't be so sure. Hart has served his country a long time. He's mentioned
in some circles as a presidential prospect. A web page is up and running.

If asked, I could very definitely see him saying yes, he would agree to serve his country in this capacity.

And as well, he would bring very significant foreign policy expertise to the policy-making councils.

19. Hart is the foremost expert in the party on fighting terrorism, Hillary's BS notwithstanding...
While Hillary has been aggressively shaking down corporate donors for money, Hart has been asking "What if, What if..." Hart predicted the 9-11 attacks and continues to work on securing the homeland. If as Hillary suggested we were to be attacked again, Hart would be the best person in the party to confront the Republicans on their continued failure to defend the homeland. See how he rubbed Rudy's nose in it here:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/gary-hart/an-open-letter-to-mayor-g_b_47140.html
Imagine a whole campaign of that!
:toast::party::toast:

As such, it is completely understandable that some of the present field would want him as a running mate. (Many Hartistas think that Hart-Edwards, or Hart-Obama makes more sense.;)) Hart also traditionally attracted substantial support from independents and cross-over Republicans, the kind of people needed to win general elections. For the first time in 20 years, he hasn't ruled out running. Long time supporters are working to get him to run again. Hart has serious issues with the fund raising required to run for office. He calls the present system, "massively corrupt".

If Hart runs, it won't be like anyone else. I think the country is ready for a truly different campaign!

B-)

2. I said Biden BECAUSE he has a long history of foreign policy
and military experience, he's a good speaker, and he would lend the missing piece to John (which IS foreign policy)! As far as debates go, I don't care WHO the Pubs put in for VP, Biden would kick their a** in a debate!

8. I'm going out on a limb here and suggest Nancy Pelosi
even though I'm not a fan of hers. BUT, I think if Edwards is top of the ticket,
he has to choose someone other than another white male. I don't think Hillary is interested in second place (and frankly, I'd rather see her stay in the Senate).

Pelosi has the benefit of many years in Congress. She knows the players.
I think she'd prove invaluable in getting his agenda--health care, environmental, energy issues, anti-poverty programs, education--done.

There is plenty of opportunity for foreign policy advisors--I don't think
the VP is the place to locate that expertise.

11. you make good points
and I think Pelosi has been unfairly criticized to some extent. That said, she would have a lot of negatives - with both parties

10. I'm thinking that the vice presidential debate would be pretty
interesting if Jesus were the Democratic veep nom.

Also, it might throw Jesus into grievous conflict. He's set out in some hellfire Protestant churches as an authoritative, judgmental, I-Come-With-A-Sword executive personality, while in others he's the pacific lamb-of-God merciful saviour type.

The Vice Presidency, traditionally, hasn't drawn either end of that polar spectrum.

We get the hatchet men (Bob Dole types) and the sage advisors (Lloyd Bentsen types).

Also, would there be a dress code? The robe and sandals thing is SO 1st century.

for his health care plan and his Iraq plan. Both are things that polls have shown Americans want-single payer health care and out of Iraq.

15. Why not Dodd or Richardson
Dodd has the foreign policy experience and almost looks like a Central Casting candidate for VP... Richardson's resume would make sense too.

16. Actually, most of the names mentioned
would make a good combo.

But here's one that may really blow your mind.

How about Edwards for President, Ron Paul as vice-pres. candidate?

Seeing how most of the real passion in the Repub. camp is for Mr. Paul, it might be the ticket to a landslide.

20. Completely incompatible.
John's for using the government to help eliminate poverty and help the middle class. Ron paul wants to eliminate all government programs and let private charity and "the market" solve everything.
