Annual East-West game to benefit troops
By: Carrie Kreisler, Leader managing editor
08/22/2007

Friday night is a big deal at Bellevue East and Bellevue West, as the high school football teams prepare to take the field at West.

It will also be a big night for the community as well.

Before Petty Officer 1st Class Jeffrey Chaney, a 1990 Bellevue West graduate, died in Iraq last month, he told his sister about the troops needing special socks to keep their feet dry.

Since then, Chaney's family has been working with the school district to organize a fundraising drive.

Cathy Williams, spokeswoman for Bellevue Public Schools, said the football game is a great time to let the community know about the "Socks for Troops" program.

About 5,000 to 7,000 people are expected at the football game. Before kickoff, the Future Business Leaders of America from East and West will host a tailgate party from 4:30 to 6:45 p.m.

FULL story at link.

The West won 28-6. When I hear the total raised for socks, I will post it.

2. I can see it now....
"Bake Sale for Bullets" :sarcasm: as if you couldn't figure it out.

I'll do anything for the troops but the government has failed these guys.

5. Your feet have more sweat glands per square centimeter
Your feet have more sweat glands per square centimeter than any orther part of your body. In an arid, desert climate, your feet can put out an enormous amount of sweat, because they're not exposed to the air like other parts of your body are. As a result, socks made of special fabric that wicks away sweat and allows it to evaporate.

Odd, isn't it, that the logistics folks who planned so carefully for every phase of the invasion didn't think to outfit their soldiers with proper footwear? If a soldier's feet are out of commission, the soldier is out of commission. But then, folks who fight their wars from their backsides in an air conditioned office (or the windowless basement of a parent not their father) might not have an appreciation for such fine details.

9. Republicans say: "They volunteered. FUCK 'EM!"
Thanks for showing the typical right-wing "support the troops" mentality.

Why don't you join up and find out how your feet get wet in the desert:

Two combat tours. Twelve years in the infantry. You think you know better than me, tough guy?

You sound like a phony to me. You have never been deployed for months away from a PX in any case, or you would know better.

We've had a whole lot of phony soldiers here.

On edit: I can't believe anyone who has worn combat boots in the field would ask how your feet get wet in the desert. That tells me you never wore combat boots in your life. Your feet get soaking wet with sweat even walking through dry sand in jungle boots.

16. That WAS pretty funny
I'm an intel weenie, and even I figured out "feet sweat when it's hot out."

I just chuckled at it before - didn't realize at the first comment he was passing himself off as a soldier. Maybe he's in the DEP? ;)

If you ever see a post from me which is derogatory to soldiers in MOS's other than infantry, please forgive me.

I really respect all soldiers in all MOS's who are doing their best. Sometimes these chairborne rangers posting right-wing claptrap from Fort Living Room make the grunt in me come out. Apologies in advance.

:patriot: You're not a weenie if you're giving your best for the Army! :patriot:
