People are saying they won't bother to vote based on this video:

Clinton Eugene Curtis, A former programmer for NASA and Exxon has finally come forward to testify before the US Judiciary that he was enlisted by Republicans to create a program which could guarantee Bush's presidential election victory.

And I really can't say that I blame them... :banghead: What's the latest on receipts for all the states?

1. Weird that something can be so disturbing and hopeful at the
same time.

I just hope this is getting out there in time to change things before the election.

2. Is that really video from 2006?
Edited on Sun Aug-26-07 11:19 PM by Autumn Colors
Or is that a typo on the details part? It says the video is from Aug. 31, 2006.

If this happened in 2006 and nothing has come of it in over a year, what makes you so optimistic? It's been buried.

I hope the date is wrong.

3. It's hard not to be suspicious of Dems too
after seeing this. You'd think they would be fighting tooth and nail to make sure our elections weren't at risk of being stolen. They must know something we don't?

I saw it long before 2006.

6. I knew about the testimony,
but hadn't seen him testify before.

I have seen a clip of what has become known as the Harri Hursti Hack; a computer programmer from Finland has proven that the machines could be hacked by using the memory cards. An article in Counterpunch discussed that hack, but I did see the clip of the test. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find it now.

13. this is embarassing but
it was in a paltalk voice chat room. There were about 50 people chatting and the guy pointed to the video as proof of why it's stupid to vote, and everyone agreed. Only like 3 people, myself included, insisted that we should still vote no matter what.

15. I see
I wouldn't be too concerned about what might be the trend among that particular self-selecting cohort.

And since the most political thing I saw there in my quick glance was Opie and Anthony, perhaps it's good news.

8. This is what I was able to Google:
*
*
*
At the same time, computer programmer Clinton Curtis charged, in a sworn affidavit before a U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee investigation in Ohio, that Republican Congressman Tom Feeney of Florida participated in hiring Curtis to write "undetectable" (when compiled) voting-machine-rigging software. Republicans in the House have also blocked efforts to investigate this and other charges made during hearing held in Ohio by Congressman John Conyers.

I cross-check EVERYTHING before drawing any conclusions, but I regard Common Dreams as a reliable source to start Googling from. I recall much that's in that article being discussed here on DU in the past, but this brings it all together.

9. Clint Curtis - the man who is testifying in the video - needs your votes!
Clint Curtis is NOT backing down and any voter who does back down is nothin' but a coward:
http://www.clintcurtis.com/

OF COURSE we should be fighting for paper ballots - counted by machine & audited - AND we should still vote no matter what equipment is available.

My God -- there have been 40 candidates KILLED in Guatemala for daring to participate in elections --

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1667046

...and Americans can't get off their asses and go vote?

We all need to be doing more - much more than voting - and we must work toward secure, fair elections.

And we must VOTE!

12. That was what I said, but they said its stupid to vote
When we don't even know if our vote will count. I didn't know how to effectively counter that view, but I did fall back on the fact that no matter what, it is my duty as a citizen to vote. Also, I pointed out that if there is a huge turnout, it makes it harder to steal if there's a huge public outcry.

10. 38 states have voter-verified paper ballots for 2008
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 08:02 AM by IndyOp
The reds starts are the only ones left that may not have voter-verified paper ballots statewide in 2008.
