On Compromise, unity, and Obama |
|
There's been a lot of talk lately about Obama and unity and compromise and whatever. Let me start out by saying I'm not an Obama supporter, but I don't dislike him either. But there are some things you simply cannot compromise on. You cannot compromise on withdrawing troops from iraq, you either do it, or you don't. you can't compromise on universal healthcare, either it's there, or it's not. you can't compromise when it means a slap in the face of our party's basic principles. Compromise has been going on for 15 years now, either with a republican congress and democratic president, or vice versa, and look where it's got us. Summarily, nowhere. Compromise is well and good on spending bills and such, but not now, not in 2008 when I sincerely think the fate of our nation hinges on the actions of the next president. When republicans are willing to compromise like we have for the past 15 years, then we'll talk about unity.
