Obama's horrible Senate compromises
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 04:37 PM by killbotfactory
I ignored the evidence at my own peril. After Obama's statements about working with republicans, I thought he meant working with them on certain issues where they can agree. Unfortunately, working with Republicans in the Senate, Obama has sold out our party left and right!

Look at this! Issue after issue surrendered to the republicans thanks to his "friends" in the Senate!

Senate Passes Coburn-Obama Bill to Create Internet Database of Federal Spending
U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL) and Tom Coburn (R-OK) today hailed the Senate's passage of the "Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act," a bill that will create a Google-like search engine and database to track approximately $1 trillion in federal grants, contracts, earmarks and loans.

Hah, and the irony is that you can search Obama's senate website with google to expose these instances of selling out the demoratic base! Another example:

Obama, Lugar Introduce The American Fuels Act to Reduce U.S. Dependence on Foreign Oil
U.S. Senators Barack Obama (D-IL) and Richard Lugar (R-IN) Friday said that they have introduced comprehensive legislation that will use alternative fuel technologies to greatly decrease America's dependence on foreign oil.

Lugar-Obama Bill to Keep Weapons Out of Terrorists' Hands Heads to Senate Floor
The U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee today passed out of committee, S. 2566, the Lugar-Obama Act. Modeled after the Nunn-Lugar program that focuses on weapons of mass destruction in the former Soviet Union, the bill was introduced by Sens. Dick Lugar (R-IN) and Barack Obama (D-IL) to expand the cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons.

Lugar-Obama would expand the detection and interdiction of weapons and materials of mass destruction.

Obama-Lugar proposal targets stockpiles of conventional weapons

My democratic senses can barely tolerate much more of this abuse, but here is some more:

Durbin, Murray, Obama Introduce Bill to Update Treatment of Traumatic Brain Injury for Military

Last year, Senator Durbin introduced an amendment to the Department of Defense Authorization bill that allocated an additional $12 million to the Defense and Veterans Brain Injury Center, providing the center a total of $19 million for Fiscal Year 2007. That authorization was included in the Omnibus Appropriations bill this January, at Senator Durbin’s urging. That amendment as well as this bill has been endorsed by Veterans for America.

Joining Durbin as cosponsors of the bill are Senators John Warner (R-VA), Patty Murray (D-WA), Lindsey Graham (R-SC), Barack Obama (D-IL), James Webb (D-VA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA).

Uh-oh, it also looks like he worked with Hillary! Let's hope some of her experience has rubbed off on him.

Making Patient Safety the Centerpiece of Medical Liability Reform
Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Barack Obama
http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/full/354/21/2205

Fighting pork? Reducing our dependence on foreign oil?! Keeping nukes and missles out of terrorist hands?! Improving the treatment of brain injuries?!!?! These are things we can work with republicans on? Nonsense! Working with these republicans is for fools! But what else can you expect from someone who is friends with fellow Senators?

All these horrible abuses and more can be found with a quick search of Obama's senate website: http://obama.senate.gov.

Where's all the good stuff? Things like the Iraq War Resolution, which put Clinton and Edwards on the map as being a strong, brave defenders of freedom and democracy? Where are the bankruptcy bills that show he isn't willing to coddle deadbeats who ruin their credit?

You can find more on Obama's reign of terror in the Senate by reading this article: http://obsidianwings.blogs.com/obsidian_wings/2006/10/barack_obama.html

And the Obama picture at the bottom of my post?

This entire thread is sarcasm at its finest. Backstory: Some have been pounding Obama mercilessly about him working with the other side of the aisle. The point of this OP is to outline the "horrible" - SARCASM - things bipartisanship can accomplish.

Sorry to explain it to you on the boards, but I can't PM you yet because you are brand spanking new to DU and can't receive private messages yet, and on that note welcome to DU.

Cheers.

7. Like HRC, Obama's taken the progressive position
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 04:57 PM by pnwmom
about 92% of the time, according to his overall voting record. You can see his votes on the issues at www.progressivepunch.com.

People who cherrypick the votes of liberals like Obama and HRC can always find some that don't comport with the perfect leftist ideal. That's politics, and why it's sometimes called "the art of compromise."

Bush clearly has never believed in compromise, but it has been the practice of politicians since the days in which this Republic was founded.

20. What's so funny? That thread you responded to is correct.
Painting Obama as evil only enforces his position and standings. During this entire campaign process, Obama has been called, naive, irresponsible, a rookie etc, but does that phase the america people, no. It only enhances his strength, vision and foresight in his policies and his ability to cross party lines and get things done. Calling him evil or anything else draws more supporters and let's them know that they are afraid to comfort him on the issues with viable solutions of their own. All they can do is critize. Plus up to this point he has been correct on many issues and the majority agrees with him. Also, if any of the other candidates had anything viable to say or have the intestional fortitude to tell the american people what they think and plan to do for this country instead of "don't let anyone know what you're thinking" bullshit maybe they would get some love too from their critics. Obama, don't hate the player, hate the game.

16. FYI. "Change" means working with Republicans for the greater good
of all america. Republicans, You can't live without them.Obama knows that as well as anyone. The decision not to do so is more of that "old world think" that gets you nowhere. Besides, what's so evil about common sense politics? :kick:
