http://www.oceanconservancy.org/site/MessageViewer?em_id=9181.0&dlv_id=12282&JServSessionIdr005=19bxzfxxc4.app1bRight now, the U.S. Senate has the rare opportunity to protect the ocean by ratifying the United Nations Law of the Sea Convention, which promotes and fosters sustainable use of ocean resources and serves as a strong international constitution for the ocean. However, before the Senate can ratify the Convention, the Foreign Relations Committee must first review it. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-DE) is chairman of that committee.
Call Senator Biden today and urge him to hold a hearing on the Law of the Sea Convention: (202) 224-5042.
Despite promising to do so months ago, Senator Biden has yet to schedule a hearing for the Convention. Now is the time to remind Senator Biden that protecting our ocean is important to America’s future!
This moment may be the best chance we will ever have to convince the Senate to ratify this important treaty. So far, over 150 nations have had the foresight to ratify the Convention and the treaty enjoys the support of diverse parties in the U.S. ranging from environmental groups and industry to the military and peace organizations; even President Bush has lent his support to the Convention.
Please, make a quick call today to Senator Biden. Urge him to protect whales, sea turtles, coral reefs and countless other important ocean habitats and resources. Calling is easy, quick and will make a real difference! Here is the phone number and a few points you can make when you call.
Senator Joseph Biden’s Office:

Alternately, you can also call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask to be connected to Senator Biden's office.
