Clinton's First Union Endorsement
28 Aug 2007 01:26 pm

The Clinton Campaign today announced the endorsement of the United Transportation Union. UTU represents 125,000 active and retired members in the railroad, bus and public transit sectors across America.

Watch for several major unions to endorse John Edwards after Labor Day.

1. Thanks, I will. This is getting to be an interesting pre-primary season!
I'm excited about John. I think he will make a fine president and one we can be proud of, for a change. Imagine that.

3. Rumor in my circle has it.....

AFSCME endorsed Bill Clinton early on. Our President Gerald W. McEntee is a close friend of both the Clinton's. But rumor has it AFSCME voted to back EDWARDS in 08! We will have to wait and see.

Bio on President McEntee here: http://www.afscme.org/about/740.cfm

4. Very interesting, if true! Perhaps this is why this endorsement was rolled out now.

8. The Unions will turn out for Edwards. Hillary cannot be expected do do well with her NAFTA support.
Edwards has worked very hard for them and went everywhere promoting minimum wage in the individuasl states.I am not aware that Hillary supported minumum wage anywhere. She certaimly didn't travel to promote it or make it a major issue.

9. Edwards needs to hammer on this one
It's not just a union issue, it's an issue for anyone who works for a living. Hillary needs to answer for her support of NAFTA and outsourcing.

10. Daily Kos: This UTU endorsement was evidently made without any feedback from the membership...

members - who were not consulted have already started canceling their PAC contributions.

My husband just got off the phone with the DC office. Their response with why they endorsed Hillary is that she is the one polling the best and they need to endorse early so that they are early on the list when it comes to be "payback" time. They did no phoning or letter sending whatsoever to poll the people who are contributing to the PAC. My husband was not only a UTU member but gave a monthly PAC donation. Needless to say, he's cancelling his donation. He even told the guy on the phone out of the three candidates you picked the one who hasn't walked a picket line. Peachy.

13. I also noticed that msnbc touts Hillary endorsements but is mum on anyone elses.
Dodd scored a huge one with the firefighters yesterday. did anyone say anything.
Obama has the only iraq war vet, the dean of foreign policy, JFK's good friend, advisor and speechwriter, Sorenson and today, wilder said he is endorsing Obama. Nothing said.
Only if Hillary gets an endorsement.
