"I have authorized our military commanders in Iraq to confront Tehran’s murderous activities"
Edited on Tue Aug-28-07 08:05 PM by Maraya1969
George W Bush August 28, 2007

Is this a declaration of war?

EDIT: fixed link (I hope) http://www.onelocalnews.com/howelltimesandtranscript/stories/index.php?action=fullnews&id=157683

EDIT #3 Here is the paragraph from the link which contains the quote.

He accused Iran‘s leadership of trying to destabilize Iraq, saying, "I have authorized our military commanders in Iraq to confront Tehran‘s murderous activities." And he said that a precipitous U.S. departure from Iraq would lead Tehran to "conclude that we were weak," accelerate its alleged pursuit of nuclear weapons and touch off an atomic arms race in the already volatile Middle East.

9. Thanks. I heard it on Countdown and typed it straight from the show
I kept rewinding the Tivo to get the words right and then I posted it and before I hunted down the link transcript I decided to make some toast. And well..... And now I realize I still have not checked your link completely and that it may not contain the actual transcript. The wise thing would be to forgo posting this until I have all my ducks in a row but.......

11. Sorry it was from Countdown and I spent so much time stopping and
starting and rewinding the tape to get the words right I just posted them as soon as I made sure the quote was exact. I could hardly believe what I heard. It was Bush talking to some group that kept clapping for him.

Oh fuck. I am such a ditz head. I hope you can read between the lines because I just can't make sense while typing, watching TV and eating toast.

13. full text: Remarks by the President to the 89th Annual National Convention of the American Legion
He mentions Iran a lot - here's two paragraphs:

http://home.businesswire.com/portal/site/google/index.jsp?ndmViewId=news_view&newsId=20070828006045&newsLang=en

<snip>

Shia extremists, backed by Iran, are training Iraqis to carry out attacks on our forces and the Iraqi people. Members of the Qods Force of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps are supplying extremist groups with funding and weapons, including sophisticated IEDs. And with the assistance of Hezbollah, they've provided training for these violent forces inside of Iraq. Recently, coalition forces seized 240-millimeter rockets that had been manufactured in Iran this year and that had been provided to Iraqi extremist groups by Iranian agents. The attacks on our bases and our troops by Iranian-supplied munitions have increased in the last few months -- despite pledges by Iran to help stabilize the security situation in Iraq.

Some say Iran's leaders are not aware of what members of their own regime are doing. Others say Iran's leaders are actively seeking to provoke the West. Either way, they cannot escape responsibility for aiding attacks against coalition forces and the murder of innocent Iraqis. The Iranian regime must halt these actions. And until it does, I will take actions necessary to protect our troops. I have authorized our military commanders in Iraq to confront Tehran's murderous activities. (Applause.)

5. Sadly, yes. I think so.
Just out and out lieing won't cut it this time, even with assistance of media and image makers. Subterfuge, trickery and underhanded cheating is all they have left and there is no reason to suspect the bfee has abandoned its mission.

6. I like the way he sidesteps
responsibility by invoking the Generals on the ground to act as they see fit. So when things go FUBAR he can blame it on them. Isn't it time to impeach the insane putzident?

10. The new president of France Mr Sarkozi (SIC) said the same thing
The gist of what Sarkozi said is that if Iran does not
comply with toning down its nuclear bomb develpment, Iran
will be ATTACKED MILITARILY! Looks to me like the attack is
in planning stage. No head of state would make such a threat
without some substance behind it.

14. He said they should NOT attack militarily. They should use sanctions
PARIS -

French President Nicolas Sarkozy warned Monday that it would be "catastrophic" to resort to military force in confronting Iran over its suspect nuclear program.

"For me, Iran having a nuclear weapon is unacceptable," Sarkozy said in his first major address on foreign policy, but he stressed that he opposed an attack on the Islamic regime and urged that the West rely on diplomacy.
He said Iran can choose between dialogue with the international community or more U.N. sanctions. "This tactic is the only one that allows us to escape from a catastrophic alternative: an Iranian bomb, or the bombing of Iran," he said.

18. Maybe-Will Anyone Stand Against Him
My main concern is will anyone try to challenge him on this issue. As far as I know the military is still saying that their is no concrete proof that Iran is doing anything in Iraq. So, will anyone stand up and say Bush is leading this country in the wrong direction yet again? Will anyone point that this seem to be a part of the strategy put forth by the Project for A New American Century?
