Out Of Sight Out Of Mind - Except For One Day Each Year - Katrina ....... |
|
well today we're going to see a lot of attention being focused on the Gulf Coast and NOLA to commemorate the largest single natural disaster to a region of the U.S. Everybody is mugging the camera today - from the pResident on down to Oprah and all the cable news networks; morning shows; state and city officials; etc, etc, etc.
Good opportunity for 'photo ops'. Good opportunity for everyone to either take credit or lay blame on the other guy.
The pResident talks about 'no child left behind' - but we have a Region that essentially has been left behind.
Anderson Cooper on Oprah talks about vacationing in NOLA and eating at the fine restaurants - and people in the gutted neighborhoods and trying to rebuild their lives are deciding whether they should put what little money they have to rebuild their house and life or put a good dinner on the table for their family.
Don't get me wrong - it is good that we call attention to this disaster and hopefully get Americans to contribute their time and money to help these people return to normalcy. But how soon after today - will the people of the Region be forgotten again until next year?
