Edwards, Kucinich pitch Dems as champions of working class before union

Democratic presidential candidates John Edwards and Dennis Kucinich fought for the heart of organized labor Tuesday, telling a crowd of union members that if elected they would support legislation requiring all employees in a union shop to join the union as a condition of working there.

"Absolutely," said Edwards, the former North Carolina senator and 2004 vice-presidential candidate. "We will not continue to have a strong middle class in this country unless we strengthen and grow the organized-labor movement."

Kucinich said he would punish "right to work states" -- those that have outlawed compulsory union membership.==

==Kucinich and Edwards both said they would seek to revise or end trade agreements they said hurt American workers. Both portrayed the president as concerned only with the wealthy and powerful industries.==

1. This is one issue I think Edwards is VERY strong on.
And of course Kucinich is also.
